Labor Day Vacation
Yesterday, my mom, sister and I decided to go to L.A. for the day and eneded up staying the night too in L.A. My mom suggested that we take my car, since I just got it 2 weeks ago & it was still new, so i agree. I wanted to see how my Maxima performed on a freeway stretched. First let me say that I was very surprised how it handled and manuevered. Since I live in Vegas, on the i-15 south, we have to go through the mountains and at since i was runny the a/c it did feel like I was going slower but then again I had to realize the elevation was 4,000 feet. Once we pass through the mountains and into barstow, it was smooth sailing. This car was quiet and road noise was low. I was driving between 65-80 mph and also had the CC set to 74 mph. The gas mileage was GREAT. i filled up my baby at chevron right before we left vegas (i reset my trip A odometer and also my MPH/MPG readouts too) and when we arrived in arcadia/monrovia, ca i only burned A HALF TANK!!
and the miles on that tank was 240 miles & the MPG was 24.6. My mom was shocked. She has a Mercedes ML430 and she said my maxima gets better MPG's than her suv.
Once we checked into our rooms, we went shopping in the monrovia area and then grabbed something to eat. (mind you, i'm still at half a tank). Traffic was light that night for it to be labor day weekend and on the freeway, i tried to use CC as much as possible but i figured i'd turn it off and i saw on my instant mpg readout, when i was driving 70 mph it was between 20-40 mpg. So today we checked out of our hotel and went to santa monica and sunset blvd and by this point it was time for me to fill 'er up for us to head back to vegas. I pulled into the chevron in Arcadia and the final read out for the 1st leg of this trip was 336.7 miles, 24.6 mpg and my average speed was 51 mph. I was very impressed with this mileage. For a car with this much power, it's very fuel efficient when you drive it the right way (i'll get to the driving part).
Around 3 p.m. we're leaving l.a. and surprisingly there was NO TRAFFIC . we so all i had was open road. boy, this MAX loves the open road. Out of san bernadino we were climbing back up the mountain and i felt the car slowing down a bit so i decided to put it in manual mode and once I had did that, it down shifted into 5th gear and the engine note was music to my ears
this thing pulls. after the mountain climb and everything the ground became level. i had look down at my instrumentation gauge and realize i was doing 100 mph. I quickly slowed down to 80. This car drove very well and was soooo smooth. The seats were very comfortable and even my mom had fell asleep in the passenger seat because they were that comfortable. (also i want to say that on the way back to vegas through san bernandino/barstow area, it seem like we were going against the wind because it felt like i was driving slower that i actually was. i was doing 80 but it felt like 60 but then again i realize we were still climbing up and down the mountain at some points). i love everything about my maxima and still learning alot from it and how it behaves. I even saw quite a few maxima's in l.a. and on the freeway going/coming to vegas/cali. this car is so sexy. once we arrived back to vegas i decided to fill up so that way i wont have to do it tomorrow morning before school. I was again shocked by my gas mileage, 326 miles 23.5 MPG, avr mph 56. According to my app on my iphone called "Road Trip" my mp's on the app was 22.5 mpg so the car was off by 1 mpg which doesnt bother me that much. so far this is 5th gas up and my average mpg is 21.65
Like I said before, this car is excellent and if there's anyone out there looking for a nice looking, sporty car then give Nissan's Maxima a try. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Well everyone have a good night and thanks for reading
also i will post pics of the fuel readings in my garage if anyone cares to take a look
