Dec 2012 CR Maxima rating

The December issue of Consumer Reports has a new automobile rating system. They average each vehicle's problems from the last three years and give them an overall predicted reliability rating.

In their UPSCALE CARS category:

The Nissan Maxima has the highest predicted reliability rating (45% better than average).
The Acura TL was second at 30% better than average.
The Chrysler 300 (V6 version only) was third at 12% better than average.
The Ford Taurus was fourth at 8% better than average.
All other vehicles in this category were below average in predicted reliability.

The only real surprise for me in this category was the Hyundai Genesis being below average in predicted reliability. The Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 V8 tied for last in this category at 96% below average.

As a side note, the 370Z was top rated in predicted reliability of 21 'SPORTY CARS'.

CR tested Nissan vehicles in 13 different categories, and the unreliability of the Armada, Titan, Versa and Quest brought Nissan's overall rating down to 13th of 28 manufacturers. Had those four losers not been included, Nissan would have been one of the better manufacturers in reliability.
