AEM Intake
AEM Intake
Hey there guys and girls.
I was wondering if the AEM 21-712C would fit on a 2009 Maxima if not what modifications would it take to make it work.
I see that is made for the 2011-2012 Maxima.

It'll fit. Installed it on my '11. There are no differences with the '09, except maybe the throttle body diameter. I could be wrong about that, but I seem to recall reading that it changed in 2011 ever so slightly. I don't know. Anyway...it will still fit because the tube leading to the TB isn't mated exactly, it will require a 'step'. The part they send (they call it a hose, even though its a wide and short rubber adapter that just clamps on each side to connect the two pieces) cinches down and connects it with an airtight fit. You won't have any problems with the install.
Word of warning, I sent mine back because it made my check engine light come on. I spoke with their customer service, and also a guy in their R&D dept several times and they said that it hasn't been happening to other purchasers of this intake. But it couldn't be figured out with mine. Their customer service is awesome, 100% satisfaction guaranteed, and if you're not happy they'll get your refund check in the mail immediately. Can't say enough good things about how they dealt with the situation, I just wish the product didn't keep triggering my CEL.
I'd still recommend trying it. It's a quality product, and I'm curious if it would give you any issues. Hopefully not! And if it doesn't work, they'll take care of you. Let me know what you decide to do.

Thanks a lot for your reply.
I'm debating between this AEM intake or the R2C intake.
I find the AEM is pretty close to being a real cold air intake and it looks pretty easy to have it closed up and transformed into a real CAI.

With a little modification, yes, it could be closed up pretty easily. But as is, it's definitely not airtight at all. The incoming air is more directed at the filter because of the large shield, and the heat is less likely to radiate on to the intake, but it still definitely gets hot because it is in no way sealed.
It's the winner for design, but not a MAJOR upgrade compared to the others.
Like I said, I'd recommend trying it. Nothing to lose but a little time spent working on it.
And if you don't go with AEM, my recommendation for a second option is Injen. Said it plenty of times here on this forum, so I won't go into it much more. But that's my recommendation.
