Help engine over heating !
Help engine over heating !
So like two weeks ago I was parked outside texting and noticed the temperature gauge on the dash going up quickly... As soon as I started driving it went down. Figured it was low coolant. Next day got some and topped it off. No problems since. But today I was parked and it happened again !!! Any ideas ?
Wow! That sucks. This is the second on here that has been mentioned to over heat. I checked my coolant level a couple of days after I picked mine up because of that thread. Reading this about another car will have me checking again just to be sure.
Did you top it off in the radiator? What was the level like in the overflow bottle.

Yes, if your engine is off, there is no coolant circulating through the engine, and the electric fans are the only way the engine can cool itself, and that manner of cooling is not enough to keep the internal temps down in the engine.
This is why, especially in summer, we sometimes see antifreeze/coolant running from underneath a vehicle that was recently parked. That is why we have the coolant overflow tank on modern vehicles.
When the coolant gets too hot (expands) to be contained in the radiator, it moves to the overflow tank. As the engine cools back down, the coolant is drawn back into the radiator from the overflow tank. If all systems are working properly, the engine is always hottest shortly after being turned off on a warm day.

I recently posted an overheating issue to this forum. My issue was a cracked radiator side tank (not the overflow container) which was a defect from the factory. I would definitely take it to the dealer as it sounds like a leak.
You sound like me..that is the funniest response I have heard in awhile. I would recommend taking it to a mechanic who is a friend over nissan and their horrible customer service. They generally do more harm than good.
26 is cheap for a coolant drain and fill done at a business, doing it yourself you will save a little bit. For 26 I would let them do it.
Took it to my mechanic turns out I need to replace the thermostat gasket, said it'd cost me about 180:/ damn. With new springs, shocks and struts, 400 for back tires, 180 for transmission drain and fill... New brakes yesterday... This car is getting to be expensive !
Kinda bothers me cause I took a c class to 140,000 with virtually ZERO problems. Not to mention I put regular in it for years and never ever got an oil change on time.. As soon as I bought the maxima with 36 k the power window went out, the reverse mirror tilt broke and so did the steering wheel tilt motor ,.. Lol sorry just frustrated
