Bluetooth Streaming Audio Questions...bitrate and codec
Bluetooth Streaming Audio Questions...bitrate and codec
Hi, I just leased another Maxima (had an '07 and '10). This time, a 2012 with the tech and sport packages. So, finally...a nav system (instead of my portable Navman GPS, which was ok, aside from the touch-screen aggravation and 2006 maps)
I was looking into the Bluetooth streaming audio feature. Has anyone found out what codec is used within the Bose/Maxima audio system.
Just got the car, and have not really had time to test that much, but I DID hear the quality for a second when going through the features and my android (Samsung Galaxy Note 2) phone started to play Led Zep IV all the sudden (using one of my 2-3 music players which had that queued). I think it somehow started the music player app too. Why it picked Neutron and not PowerAMP, i have no idea, but both work just fine).
From that initial listen...it sounded pretty good (for bluetooth experiences have proven low quality in the past). So, I assumed this may be the apt-X and therefore, 352-384 kbps. After all, it's 2012 now

In anycase, I know that my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 plays apt-X quality bluetooth. I just do not know if the car audio system is transcoding it to another codec (like it does for mp3 ripping) or if that is a moot point with bluetooth apt-X streaming.
Does anyone know? I haven't been able to find an answer on it.
As a bonus question...
The Music Box, but haven't looked as much to see what bitrate audio is converted to when storing the music. It's mp3 format, but not sure what 'high' bitrate is...128kbps? If so, that is not very 'high' these days.
Anyway, thanks in advance!

Yeah the music box bitrate is LOW. I don't use it at all.
I am using a Sony Z1060 (android mp3 player) and it sounds great. It may actually render sound better than the CD player. I assume whatever codec it is using is very good.

Lol
That's a really a good question. I know the musicbox is low bitrate, but don't know exactly what quality we're getting via Bluetooth.
A Bluetooth related question: does anyone else's Bluetooth streaming lag and then start playing short bursts of music (about 1/10 second) every 2 or 3 seconds? Mine does that sometimes, maybe once every 10-15 minutes, and VERY rarely does it ever "catch up" and start working normally again. I usually have to pause the music for a few seconds and then press play again. It seems to happen more often when the phone is in my left front pocket, than when I've just set my phone in a cup holder, but it seems strange to blame it on the bluetooth's range. Just curious if if happens to anyone else. (Btw, using an iPhone 5)

One thing I've noticed with the Bluetooth audio (I'm using iPhone 4S) is that the overall volume is lower than most other sources, for example, the iPod input. Volume fully up on bluetooth audio is approximately equal to 3/4 volume on iPod input. I haven't found a setting to adjust this. It may be an iPhone problem and not nissan's.
Apple also fixed a ton of bugs with the Bluetooth audio streaming (A2DP i believe its called) in iOS 6. It used to be generally usable but very unreliable, now it's pretty solid with exception of an occasional skip. You can also now select songs with Siri voice commands while the iPod interface is active which was not possible before in iOS 5 (was extremely annoying).
