Clunk/brake clip noise

Clunk/brake clip noise
Hey seeing if anyone has been experiencing same issue. I have a 2012 sv max just hit 16k,when going into reverse from park as soon as brake pedal is applied you here a distinct brake clip/clunk noise from front end and will only happen once until parked again for a min or two an it will do exactly the same thing.

I asked my dealer about this during my last oil change. They told me that the calipers have some "give" and will very slightly rock forward or back the first time depending on if your reversing or moving forward. I wasn't totally happy with that answer, but I'm also not experienced enough to argue it. My grandmother just bought a 7th gen so I'm going to test drive it tonight and see if hers makes the noise.
Edit: I doubt if it matters, but we both have the 2012 S. I'm at 34k and she's at 26k

I'm going to have to check out this "give." You sure he didn't mean the pads? I didn't notice anything unusual when I swapped out my springs. Btw, your grandma has a cool car. Heh.
I know, I told my grandma that she's allowed to get one under 2 conditions. It can't be an SV and it couldn't be the same color. So she got a Silver S haha. I'm installing HIDs and LED interior lights in it tonight as a matter of fact.

That article states during take off/acceleration. This issue is during the first use of braking when changing from forward to reverse and vice versa. I tested for the clicking on my grandma's car and hers is there but comfortably more faint... hardly noticeable. Mine can be hard by people outside of the car very clearly.

I know that I have seen and posted in multiple threads on this issue. I have experienced it myself for a while now. Of course dealer blew it off long time ago. The noise is just as described by op, a loud clunk right after starting the car, backing out of the parking spot and braking.
Well I think I finally nailed what that problem is. I was painting my calipers and completely took apart from brakes. The front pads actually have double shims, which are quiet loose. I suspect the noise was coming from the shims moving around. When I reassembled the brakes, I applied the red CRC brake quiet compound between the shims and the car has been quiet ever since.
Give it a try and report your results.
Good luck,
Max
