Potential new owner, just a few questions
Hey folks, strongly considering a purchase my first Maxima but have a few questions...
with my budget, the only one I can afford has 91,xxx miles. (2009)
Should I run away from this or would it still hold value? Also, any laundry list of things that should be changed? I'd like to lower the price and could use the ammo. The CarFax only shows the rotors being replaced.
Thanks in advance for any help.

You didnt mention the asking price. That would help us in determining if you should walk. I've had my 2009 since dec 2008 and its a lot of car for the money. If the price is right and it checks out ok, i say go for it.

Thanks guys.
$18,500 sticker. (I plan on getting this number down after inspecting it)
Jig, the Maxima definitely has a lot of miles. The previous owner logged 60k+ in 2 years.
It has a panoramic moonroof, nav, bluetooth, leather seats, paddle shifters, park assist...
I'm assuming that's some combination of Technology and Sport?
There's really nothing comparable in the area due to the mileage (and existing Nissan warranty). But I am content to walk from this deal depending on potential maintenance. Minor tune-up and a timing belt? No big deal. Major tune-up? No thanks.

That is the SV Model. for 18,500 at 91,000 isn't terribly bad. If the previous owner beat the car to death, then I wouldn't recommend buying it. It all comes down to what you want to do. I am at 50,000 Miles and I am starting to notice minor issues..so you do the math. Oh and I have a 2009 SV.
But the Maxima you are looking at does have some goodies with it..which is pretty awesome.

check the steering wheel lock for any issues. Check the roof and make sure it opens and closes with no problems. When test driving, feel the gears when accelerating. If you can feel any gear change between launch and acceleration, take note because you shouldnt feel any gears at all. The cvt transmission should have 100K mile warranty on it still.
One last thing, drive it on the freeway with no air or stereo, listen for wind noise. Some people complain that it is too loud and find out that the doors werent properly aligned during production.

2LEET touched up most of the points. I noticed a weird whining noise..but I think it only happens because it is cold out. I have also noticed a knock sound at times when the car is running. I am officially experiencing another shaking/trembling of the car at 70mph..I had it aligned and wheels rotated not to long ago..and I drive pretty damn carefully. Try the automatic steering wheel function..move it around a few times and see if the motor still works inside. Go over some minor bumps and see if you hear anything in the rear of the car (creaking noise from the struts, banging on the window shade panel, etc.) What else, what else..Those are my main concerns..Besides that, the car runs great!

You can probably get 'em down a little bit more but don't be surprised if they don't budge much. Check True Cars.com ... it'll give you a better sense of the market value of the car in your area.
Take someone you trust along for the test drive to have them occupy the salesman while you concentrate on driving the car. Accelerate hard, brake hard, hit bumps, listen for rattles, and excess road noise. Take your hands off the wheel for a couple seconds ... does it drive straight?
While the car is parked, check the stereo, windows, seats, lights, AC/ heat, etc. Open the hood, look at all the fluids. Pull out the air filter. All these things should be in tip top shape before you take possession of the car.
Go back several pages in this forum, there are a bunch of threads worth reading.
Remember ... RESEARCH is your friend. If you do your homework in advance, it will pay off when it comes time to buy.

Yeah you can try asking to test drive the second time alone, try bringing something that shows you are serious about making the car purchase. For example some bank credit offer letter/approval or maybe even some other vehicle price quotes "Maybe if I went out for a quick drive alone I could make up my mind"

$18.5k seems a little highflier the mileage. I just bought my 09' SV with the same options you mention 5 weeks ago for $19.9k and it had 31k on it. Is the title clean? Is this a Nissan dealer or other brand dealer selling the car? These guys are right being some along so they can occupy the salesman while you drive the car. Good luck
