High Beam Replacement

I've been thinking of putting LED's in my high beams. I'm not looking for performance because I rarely use them but just something to replace the OEM yellow. I have 2 questions:

1. Do I need to use a resistor with the high beam or can I just swap the bulb directly out?

2. Would the LED look dumb with my stock housing?

This is the LED I found when looking for 9005 replacement.

Not following you on why you would want to do this. You are going to lose all functionality of the high beam which could be a safety issue in certain situations, just to get rid of a slightly yellow color on a bulb that you barely use?

Doesn't seem to make sense to me. I think the better route would be to look for a halogen replacement that is a whiter color, or get an HID kit of the color you wish.

Here.....take your pick!

Personally I was thinking of going with a true yellow high beam like the luminics kryptons. That would help in the rainy and foggy weather (supposedly).

Does anyone know the stock wattage of the high beam bulbs, and what would be a safe maximum wattage to consider? edit: looked it up in the manual. Its 65w for the high beams - 9005 HB3

Agreed, safety is always number one.

OP: If you want to get rid of the yellow, go with Sylvania SilverStars ZXE or something like that. I had the base model of them, before they came out with ultra, and then ZXE. On the website below, though, you can compare them.
Just remember, the bluer you go, the less light you get. Safety first, looks always second.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll buy a few sets of these bulbs and try them out.

Where would I mount the relay/ballasts if I did get a HID kit for the high beams? It seems like there isn't enough room since my low beams have a HID kit on there.

I replaced my high beams within a week of buying the 2012 SV last July because I was annoyed at the yellowish light from them compared to the low beam HID's very white light. I picked up a pair of the Sylvania SilverStars ZXEs, and have been happy with the much closer to HID light color/output to my low beams. I had also replaced my stock halogens in my 2007 SE with these and had been very impressed with the upgrade from stock output on that car.

thanks for letting me know how well it matches. I was wondering how it was going to look because i have 6000k HID kit and the website says the temperature of the ZXE was around 4300. I'll go ahead and buy a pair of these also and see what look I like on the Max

Just FYI...I was comparing the high beams ZXEs to my stock HIDs that I guess are the 4300k. They are much closer together in light output than the stock high beams...but you can still see a slight difference. Output is very bright with high beams and low beam HIDs both on though!

I ordered some ZXE's online because they are cheaper than going down to a parts shop and getting them. In the mean time I received the yellow lights I ordered to try them out. I'm not really feeling the look so I'll be swapping them as soon as the ZXE's come in.

They are bright in the rain though.

Worth it

ZXE's definitely the way to go bro! I did the change as well and it was well worth the price. Enjoy.

Here are a couple of mine with the stock high beams, then after I replaced them with ZXEs. At least in these images, it's difficult to tell the difference between the HIDs and my ZXE high beams.
