cracking/peeling paint under taillight

Hello all,

I have a 2010. Recently started washing my own car and noticed the paint under one of the taillights is cracking/peeling, but is fine everywhere else. I searched, but looked like no one else has experienced this. Anyway, I'm assuming if I do nothing this will spread. Is there a way I can fix this without taking it to a bodyshop?(touchup paint?) I'm more concerned with this not spreading as opposed to making it look "perfect" again. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

It looks to me that it is located in a "good spot". What i mean by good spot is its not on a flat part of the rear bumper or a noticable spot. I would start by removing your rear tailight. In the picture it looks as if only the corner is peeling. It could of happened for a number of reasons but it looks to me that you are down to the bare urethane. Which would indicate poor prep work. If you want to fix this problem yourself preparation is key. Start by sanding the top of the corner with 320 grit dry/wet. DO NOT SAND THE "FACE" of the bumper. You want to make the repair as small as possible. All edges need to be smooth and flat "Featheredged". Wash the bumper after sanding. A wax and grease remover will work well for removing any remaining contaminants after washing. Buy some primer such as sem flexible primer for bumpers. Mask the repair area and spray only the repair area with two even coats. Once cured sand the primer with 400 grit. Once again smooth and featheredged. This should be sufficient since you wont be spraying paint. Your option is to use a touch up brush/pen. Apply the color coat and clear coat evenly. Allow sufficient dry time in betweeen color and top coats. I Hope this helped.
