Help i think its tranny problems

Hey guys i need some input, on long drives my car after lets say 50 (of constant speed ((70 mph)) or so miles my car goes into the mode where i can't downshift or or upshift at all, and when i try to give it the car gas my rpm probably goes up 10-50 rpm max (with the pedal floored)!!!! the car builds speed after a while, but something has to be seriously wrong, the car only does this on long drives, other than that it drives perfectly! but my mpg is like 17 city 17 highway which is really off too -.-

i put premium gas only
and my car only services at nissan

btw its a 2009 maxima with about 55k miles on it >.<

There was a TSB about slow acceleration or something like related to the early 7th gen models. It involved something about replacing the throttle body or valve body or something. That, or there is a procedure that the dealer must perform to flash new software into the car's Transmission Control Module.

If I remember correctly, your warranty should be still in effect; I believe it was extended to 10 years / 120,000 miles for your model year and the 2010. See here: https://owners.nissanusa.com/nowners...arrantyContent

tbh, i got my car on a steal, it was hit on the left front end and was salvaged because the owner didn't want to repair it, even though it was cheap to repair so they slapped a rebuilt title on it and sold it for cheap, and i got it, with 21k miles on it in 2010, so the warranty went straight out the window, but i keep it well maintained. but this problem has me puzzled

Nothing on a salvage title is considered a "steal" its quite often more of a gamble.

It sounds like your car is going into a limp mode of some sort possibly due to a sensor picking up something.
Are you getting any codes? its odd to hear this happen yet no check engine light. is your car running hot when this happens?

Nope no lights are coming on, engine temp doesn't move from the middle where it always lines up, no odd smells or sounds, even when i get off the highway and back onto normal roads, after 5-10 minutes its back to normal like it never happened. I don't have anyway of getting codes other than taking it to a dealer, but that won't happen because by time i would get to a dealer it would be okay again lol

Most likely your tranny is running hot and as a safety measure the tranny will 'limit' itself to prevent straining and overheating the system.

You can check with your dealership whether this is 'normal' behaviors based on the driving conditions you mentioned.

Lots of auto parts stores will check your codes for free. Either Auto Zone or Advance Auto (or both) will do this.

The fact your car is fine part of the time tells us the car may be putting itself into the condition you are having in order to protect something - probably your tranny. What you are experiencing is not something I can remember seeing on this board before.

At some point the car was declared a total loss by an insurance company, it's not the owners call

In almost all cases, salvage title is given to any vehicle that has sustained damage worth 75% or more of its value.

Some states slap a salvage title on any stolen car

I have the same car; 09 max SV fully loaded and my car does the same exact thing, but after driving hard on it. like if I was driving normally on the highway and I see some Altima taunting me (they always do) I'd go for the run but after like 30 mins or so my rpms won't go past 4 and the car climbs very slowly. and I can't downshift either, teptronic does what it wants & everything. I heard it was a safety feature where your tranny gets too hot and it sends a signal to the car for it not to pick up as fast. but off a cold engine start I hit 120-140 easily picks up like my dads s550 (not exactly like it but you get the point) as for your mpg you should switch out your air filter, I was experiencing horrible mpg too and my brother told me that I needed a new filter, figures out he was right, it made a huge difference in mpg and it ran like new. also when you change your oil use synthetic.

I hope the dealer can flash that software into my tranny control module.

Try also getting a OBDII scanner. Here is a link to the search page on amazon: LINK.
I have the top one:
ElmScan 5 ElmScan 5

It is pretty cheap, fairly easy to use, although the user interface in the program is a bit unpolished in my opinion. I am unsure if the program is able to let you monitor transmission temperatures, but it is a good try.

Of course, one would need to have a laptop to use it, as USB only goes so far. Perhaps bluetooth and a phone? At any rate, I recommend giving it a try.
