GPS Mount - what & where

I would appreciate some info on how any of you have mounted a Garmin. Mount type, placement, and wire routing would be very helpful. Any photos would be great! Thanks---

I use my Garmin once in a while on longer trips but I actually suction it to the centre screen in the car because I don't use need to see it that often.. But another thing that I have that may be more useful is the mount by mountek which will fit in the cd slot .. Perfect location and will work great for the Garmin..

Yeah it's got enough room and doesn't block anything

Just go to Proclips website pick the car mount and then your device and you're good it will give you the mount you need there

Funnyman, How do you run the wiring when using the Mountek? Do you use the cell phone version or the 6000g? Thx

Mountek 6000g

I am going to use the Mountek 6000g as at least a temporary GPS solution. Hopefully will have it next week. Anyone using it have suggestions on running the wiring? Also, do you just leave it setup or dismount it each time when leaving the car? Thks!

Sorry didnt see your last post.. I haven't used the mountek for my gps before buy am pretty sure it will work. In terms of running the cables I have run a power cable from the center console armrest area through the center console toward the radio and brought it up. It's the cleanest way without seein wires.

Proclip with my iphone has gps. drilled a hole in the side of the center console and ran the usb through the middle and up to the pro clip. Looks real clean and simple to just get in and dock the phone.

You don't need a Proclip. I went through this earlier. I initially had it suctioned to the center screen. It would fall off sometimes and until I put a screen protector on the LCD, the suction cup was leaving a residue.

I switched it to a vent clip mount for the left vent. I ran a wire from the fuse box up the insulation, so there's only two inches of exposed power wire. It's perfect. It makes no noise, doesn't get in the way, doesn't look ugly, and doesn't fall off. Oh, the clip was under $10. I think this is far and away the best method of mounting a Garmin.

I tried the Mountek 6000g CD slot mount for my Garmin, but it didn't work out for me. Jiggled too much on anything but perfectly smooth road. Still looking..

Thanks! Sounds like this would be much more stable than the CD mount. I assume you have it on the far left vent on left side of steering wheel. I like that it might be more hidden from prying eyes there, am I right? I am not an expert at wiring.. Where does your wire come out? Thanks again for the help.

Thanks Zoe... Looks like good option, but I'm looking to keep it off the windshield or top of dash.

I dont have a maxima yet but I think the suction cup can fit in the flat space below the shifter... in front of the arm rest.

I am still searching for a solution for mounting a Garmin GPS. The inconvenient locations of the power outlets seem to compound the problem for me. Wish the Max had the handy cubby hole below the center of the dash like the Altima, or at least a power outlet there... But it doesn't... Any other suggestions out there?

Others have given you some good options. I am using proclip myself with waze from my cell phone. I would add the ram mount. They have flex arms that bolt on to the passenger seat or that use your cup holder. But if you want permanent with no wires, replace the headunit.
