Heated/Cooled Seat Issue

This problem just started today. Whenever I turn in my heated cooled drivers seat, the LED indicator only stays lit for 30 seconds and then shuts off. Does anyone know why this happens?

A few questions
1. During the 30 seconds that the led light is on does the seat get warm or cool depending of **** selection?
2. After the led light goes off are the heating or cooling functions still working? warmth, cooling or fans operating.
3. Does the led light go out on every cooling or heating number on the control ****?

Might be that the sensor that monitors the temperature may be malfunctioning.

There is a TSB I think for this issue, if not, then a few other members have had the same issue as you.
I believe it is a malfunctioning temperature sensor or switch or something. I cannot remember what it is at the moment, try searching.

Thanks for the replies guys.

The seat doesn't warm or cool during that 30 seconds and the light goes off regardless of what setting the **** is set at. I have searched and couldn't find anyone with a similar situation.

I had the same issue.

Took the car back to the dealership and they replaced the switch along with all the components that heated / cooled the seat.

After the replacements, everything works great.

I had this issue on my 2010 before Nissan had any documented cases on how to fix it.... Took over a year before I had a working heated seat. What ended up happening is a Nissan engineer tore the seat apart and discovered the tubes the hit air flowed through were crushed not allowing air to pass. The TED (thermo electric device which does the actual heating/cooling) would over heat and shut the system down. The engineer created new tubes for the air to flow through on site. It's been working fine ever since.
I believe there is an actual procedure in place for fixing this now, stay after your dealer. These seats work really well!

Something weird happened yesterday, I hit a speed bump going kind of fast because I was in a hurry and then the heated and cooled seats starting working again. Hmmm

This is good to know. If mine ever go out again... I'll attempt to tear the seat down to see if this is the cause.

My switch doesn't cut out but on either heat or cool, the seat back cools or heats up much faster than the seat base. I can't even really notice heat or cooling coming from the base. Is this typical?

Sometimes my back & bum cushion get almost too hot. Other times they're both just luke warm. Sometimes I feel one working very well and the other not at all... I'm not sure what normal is on these seats. I honestly don't think there is anything wrong with mine anymore and it's just how these things work.

Folks - this is dated thread, but after some searching I found it.

This is the exact problem I'm having now with my 2011 Maxima except now it's both cold and heat. Neither work. After starting the car, I usually let the AC cool the car a bit, about 5-minutes, switch the **** to cold for the seat and 10 seconds later the light goes out. I shut off the car, with only power on, so I could hear the seat fan, same thing happened and you could hear the blower fan under the seat shut down.

Now unfortunately I have had a history of problems of this nature since I bought it in 2011. Usually with the heat portion in the winter. They have replaced stuff twice, and my fix was to let the car warm up with heat on for about 5 minutes or more, then turn on the **** to heat - no problems. The cooling issue? New. Just started 3-days ago. I even let the car run for 10 minutes, full blast of AC on 60 degree's with air going at the floor, and same issue - light off in 10 seconds. Left it on while driving home today - never got cool.

I guess it will be an item to mention at the dealership at the next maintenance call....

It depends on if your light is on for 10 or 30 seconds. Here is Nissan's flow chart. Where you go from here, I'm not sure. It will be a bit of diagnostic work, but the easiest thing to check is the filter under your seat. (if your light stays on for 30 sec).
There are other write ups already on it but put the seat all the way up in the air and you can barely reach the filter from the back of the seat. A slight twist counterclockwise will allow it to drop down. Then you can wash it out....or replace it with a new one. I just washed and dried mine. But I never had an issue with the light not staying on. I just did it because it was dirty.

WilSpeed - great chart. I'll look into the filter although I just cleaned it in December, but I'll check it. Thanks. At least this gives me something to talk to the dealership about so they don't give me the runaround.

Thanks!
