Altima Confusion

I seriously hope I'm not the only one going through this tragedy. Why is it that EVERYONE thinks my car is an Altima . There's been a handful of people that have actually said Maxima, but majority rules Altima. It wouldn't bother me if my city isn't filled with the basic 2.5s Altimas with the hub caps and other basicness (new word) which is why I was so opposed to getting one. Then they look at my car and think I have a souped up Altima

well the 7th gen max has been out since 2009, and the alti is new, but is highly based off the 7th gen styling.

I remember one time when I was coming up on the highway to a new Altima, I pointed it out to my wife, then when we got closer I was like "**** never mind that's a maxima". Even I'm guilty of it.

You gotta admit, there are a TON of striking similarities to the new altima and current gen max. Which is one reason I think many are looking forward to the new 8th gen max. No confusing that for an Alti

Yea from a distance I could understand but this has happened up close and personal ! To me I just know the Maxima solely because of the coke bottle shape like a nice shaped thick female. The Altima is the skinnier mini coke bottle shaped female

Man someone plz tell me the new Maxima will look totally different. I've been correcting ppl about this for the longest. The funny thing is when you correct them. their response is oh it's the same. I'm like hell nah different price range. Good Luck you will be forever correcting ppl on this. I have the 13 Altima and 13 Maxima still people cant tell the difference. I've made it worst since the paint job are the exact same lol. Oh then i get why did you take the rims off. lol funny just wait and see.

But it doesnt matter what most ppl think I know the females know this is a Maxima and that's all that counts!!!

Depending on the viewing angle....I've had mine referred to an Infinity from the front, Altima from the side, and a combo of guesses from the rear. De-badging always makes the guesses interesting.

Yeah, I hear you. My aunt is guilty of this too. Ive told her a couple times, that my car is a Maxima and she still asks is that Altima? Then I look around like really?! Even before I bought my Maxima, the differences between the two are very obvious!

Altima is just so popular and is a number one seller etc, so people just tend to think every Nissan 4 door is an Altima. This happens with lots of things that are popular, people oversee the other things made by the same MFG (ex.Samsung makes several cell phones, but everyone thinks that its a Galaxy S4/S3 because its their most popular line of phones)......Not to say its an excuse though, just saying! :-(

MONTE is right. There are actually MILLIONS of Altimas on the road, and the new Altimas have drawn from the 7th gen Maxima design in several areas.

This problem has been compounded by the delay in releasing the 8th gen Maxima. At the time this new Altima was being designed around three or four years ago, it was anticipated that the 8th gen Maxima would be arriving shortly after the new Altima, and the problem would 'disappear.' But that did not happen, probably primarily due to unexpected problems with Nissan's new CVT.

I might excuse a person unfamiliar with cars if they are standing to the side of my Maxima, but there is no resemblance between the Altima and the Maxima from the front. The Altima grille resembles the Sentra grille, while the Maxima grille reminds me of Italian race cars.

That is a stretch. Maybe Lexus ES Camry but GS?, nope. Maybe I'm a bit partial having owned a GS400.

I have trouble telling late model Altimas from the Maxima...which leads me to wonder why I bought a commuter car that stickered for $41K when we could have saved a lot of $$ with the Altima.
Next time around, probably 2015 model, I'll look at the Altima as long as it has Bluetooth, satellite radio, heated seats and steering wheel.

On some VIP threads "some" say the 6th gen has body lines close to the gs430. It makes me happy but then I look at my car and I'm like, "it's not that pretty."
