A sticky situation
A sticky situation
I need a little help and advice, my 7 year old artistic son decided he had enough of the soda he was drinking and threw it from the back seat and it hit the dash display and spilled on the buttons below, of course I immediately wiped it down with warm water the best I could but now 2 weeks later the 2 buttons are starting to stick when pressed. I had a feeling this was going to be the case :-(
Question is what's the best way to go about fixing this? I'm guessing taking some electronic cleaner and spray into the buttons? Some other ideas would be appreciated.

If you are reluctant to take apart, by yourself, the section of the dash that was involved...take it to a good quality car stereo shop and ask them for an estimate to remove the pieces and clean up the soda pop residue & reinstall.
You need to take the dash area apart and clean it while it is removed from the vehicle.
Then you can get behind everything and get that cleaned out as well.
There are two threads on DVD bypass that have directions on taking the center stack apart.

I had a similar issue with my wife's GMC Acadia. She spilled a caramel latte on the dash and her radio and climate control buttons started to stick.
I tried to clean the buttons but it didn't work well. We took it to the GMC dealer for a cleaning. Their cleaning attempts didn't last so they replaced all the affected buttons - including the ENTIRE in-dash nav / radio system - as a warranty claim.
I really like my Maxima, but I love my GMC dealer.
