Power steering fluid question

I recently noticed my power steering was getting a little weird. Specifically when idling it would be hard to turn, but okay when i hit the gas or am driving. Anyways, I checked the fluid today and it was low. Manual says use Nissan PSF or equivalent. How do we know what equivalent is? Stopped at Auto Zone and the sales guy said it's all the same? I really don't know.. I bought this:

I didn't put it in because I noticed my current fluid is red/pink and this is clear. What's the deal with this? Am I okay to fill it to the max line? OR should I return it and get a different kind? If so, what kind should I get?

Most all power steering fluid really is the same. In the old days you could even use transmission fluid in the power steering. As long as the bottle stats power steering fluid you will be fine.

It's probably a little pink because ATF was used. So just top it up with some ATF and you should be fine. Just make sure you use the proper ATF and just check the P.S line and pump to see if you happen to have a leak somewhere.

You probably have bigger issues than adding fluid. Sounds like your pump may be going out.

If the car is still under the powertrain warranty, I'd be using Nissan PS fluid and save the receipt. As said above, the pump might be on the way out...and using non Nissan fluid might complicate any claim you might make to Nissan.

I think it's the pump. When I turn my wheel all the way to the left or right there is a groaning sound it makes till I move the wheel away.

that's a normal noise for that action....and also something you want to avoid doing it is hard on the pump and yours might be close to failure...

If the fluid is low, top up with the Nissan fluid (IMHO) and then search for the leak. Don't wait, the leak won't fix itself
