Car Audio Advice
Hey everyone, I am looking to add some low end to my 2014 Max with Tech & Premium package. I have the Bose system w/nav. I have been looking around, and I see someone selling a JL Audio 8W7AE-3 with a ported box built for this sub, plus a JL Audio JX 500/1 amp all for $450. I checked and that sub is selling for $499 by itself. Do you guys think that would sound good in our cars? And is that a good price for an almost new setup?
I have not been into the car stereo thing in about 10 years, but when I was I LOVED JL Audio subs. They seemed the best for all types of music, gave great bass when listening to rap and great power when listening to rock/metal/country.

Great stuff, and the 500/1 is way more than you need.
I ran an 8w7 on the 250/1 and it was more than enough. People regularly though I had 2-12" subs.
I currently have the 13w6 on a 500/1 and I had to turn the gain all the way down, and decrease the box volume because it was toooo much.

Unless you get someone really good to install and tune it, I want to bet a dollar that your car will sound worse. Louder, yes, but not as clean. If you have sophisticated taste about sound quality, make sure you get a good shop. But some people cant tell when everything is out of phase and just care for loud. I find the premium to have excellent quality all the way to about 70% on the volume ****. I wish there was a way to adjust the level of each speaker individually because the center is overboosted to me and kind of kills the 'surround' effect, but all in all not pretty good for non luxury car.
I spend my twenties messing with that stuff and my house is still full of home theatre systems, but I developed a small permanent ring in my ears and I am not very cognizend of loud audio. Quality>Db levels

Assiduous....believe me I respect that everyone has their own opinion but I feel like you are a complete buzz kill every time I read one of your posts. Like you wait for someone to talk about something nice they did to their car or want or a way they customized their car and all you do is feel the need to justify why it's stupid. It's their car and makes them happy and they make the car payment. Let them (us) have fun without having to hear the negativity.
Haven't you noticed most people on here are customizing their cars and not trying to turn them into old fart mobiles as you seem to enjoy? Less is not more. I don't give a damn how you look at it. If u wanted a light car with tiny wheels and tires and good mileage why did you get a maxima and not a sentra or prius?
You have every right to offer your opinion but as I said you just seem like a buzz kill waiting for someone to bring something up and then kicking it in the nuts.

My suggestion to anyone wanting to improve the sound in this car would be to get an aftermarket sub. That was the first thing I did, & that in itself was a big improvement in sound. I would turn the bass level down and keep the mids from getting too muddy. The bass to the sub could be adjusted through a remote gain controller.
To the OP, get the sub & amp. Once properly installed & dialed in, you will be glad you did it.
