Power Problems

Ill try to make this as short as possible.
Just picked up my 7th Gen today (1st time owner). I get it home happy the way it drove on the way. Reading the owners manual and trying things out when the car won't start. 1st doors wont lock/unlock, then start button wont cycle through the options(lock/Acc/On)Then the star button starts flashing on its own and there is a ticking sound coming from the engine. After referring to the manual and calling the dealership, they said its probably the battery. I have it charging rt now and will see how it fares later or in the morning. Nissan said they will reimburse me for any charges for getting a new battery but its just frustrating that its "new" (2013) and there are already issues.
Anyone else experience anything like this?

BTW, if things pan out Ill be posting some pics and outlining what i want to do to my Max, in another thread.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the 13 Max. I cant say ive had this problem but do you have any power at all? I would ask how many miles are on the car but mileage doesn't really matter more than running at idle, geographic location and care. Could alternator or starter, but Check the battery posts, nissans are known for developing acid corrosion there. Wish you the best of luck with the dealer and getting the Nax back to tip top shape and cant wait to see what you have in mind. And feel free to share anything here. Thus Forum is full of knowledge on the Max.

The battery in this car is poor!!! I replaced mine with an optima redtop 35 a few months after buying the car. Mine was 3 yrs old with 30,000 miles.

The redtop 35 drops right in and is a nice bump in CCA...

Welcome and congrats!

Agreed, the OEM battery isn't the best. I had the dealer replace it with a 700 CCA Nissan battery and haven't had any issues at all.

The car battery is most likely the culprit because they are doodoo, another thing I would check is that the key fob battery is not dead. If u unlock the doors manually, try putting the fob in the cubby and see if it starts up or try the spare

Here's the latest on the power problems.
I checked the battery with a multimeter and it was reading 7.6V (everything had stopped working), put the battery charger on it over night and checked it in the morning. Now reading 12.86V before reconnection. After reconnection it read 12.67V (allow able due to what it has to power). The last time I put the meter on it it read 12.57V (about 4hrs later). I am going to keep an eye on it and see if keeps dropping. If so is it the battery ( which I will look into getting something with higher amperage) or is there something else that might be draining the battery.
Also, seeing as the car is under warranty what is the highest CCA batt. that i can get from Nissan. Due to the fact that Im in Canada and Im looking to install a car starter for this cold climate.
Thanks for the Welcome and thank you to RCM78 & Dudemaine for the suggestions.

Yeahhh - that battery is your problem. I lucked up and mine lasted 3 years, but it was a real weenie! And if this is your new car, I'm sure you were sitting in it after you got it home and checking everything out for a good half hour or so with interior lights on, maybe ignition in ACC or ON. Doing that for 30 minutes is enough to kill the stock battery. It's just awful! Do yourself a favor and just replace it now.

I went to Autozone - I was going to get an Optima yellowtop, but Autozone had a Duralast brand gel-cell type battery that had higher CCA's and was a lot cheaper. It's worked great for me.

Your voltages look fine. I'm sure the battery will be just fine to continue to use, but be super careful about having any electronic or lights on in the car without the engine running because you'll run that sucker dead in about half hour with stereo on.

Late,
Trav

As a reminder, the OEM Nissan batter is not sealed type battery. You do need to check the water level in them, like you did in the 60's!

Replace the battery, mine did the exact same thing when I first got it home. I was programming the garage door opener and figuring out things and the car wouldn't start. I couldn't even jump it with my wife's car it was so dead. I got a higher CCA battery from Nissan the next day.

Here's the update...Purchased a Redtop 35 battery (720 CCA, direct drop in) swapped out the factory battery (550 CCA) and everything is great now. Dealership reimbursed me for the cost. No need to worry about running accessories and the battery dying out when the engine is not running.
Thanks to all for your input.

Finally got an Optima Red Top

I added an amp and sub to my system and after literally 5mins of music with the car off my battery was dead. Fed up I called around and found a Optima Red Top that I bought immediately. No more adding water to batteries for me. I should have bought one years ago.

The oem batteries are garbage, you did the right thing putting a new battery in as well. The Oem battery will leave you stranded
