My Ceramic Window Tint 2012 Maxima

So I got tired of watching my son suffer with the sun in his eyes. So I went to my local tint shop and got some tinting done. I hate to say it but I was up-sold to the Ceramic Tint which supposed to do this that an another, I did my research to felt that it was worth it. It was $350 for ALL the windows, The front window has a 80% blue frost tint on it and the others are 40%, the darkest I could have it without the chance of police problems. I think the legal limit here in Ga is 32%, I wouldn't have mind a little darker i.e. 35% but It looks really nice with the 40% and I can still see around me at night. As for the front window, you CAN NOT tell that anything is on it if you're not looking but I can feel the benefits of having it…

And for those that follow my detailing threads, my car has not been polished and yet it looks super shiny.

SR very tasteful and effective. I assume they use blue on the windshield go hide the fact that it's tinted as well for solar protection? It does look super shiny ;-)

Yeah that is why it's so light, my wife didn't like the idea until she saw the car and loved how it looked. So as along she is happy so am I…

The car was washed and I applied a detailers spray over it a couple of days ago. I didn't want to take the time to add a wax to it.

Looks good, $350 is a good price. Places here charge $499 for that level tint.

i also had to get 40% tint here in NC. there is a slight factory tint. when i got my inspection done, they did a meter test on it and it actually measures about 34%...so you are safe with 40%, just above the legal limit.

i feel like im in a fish bowl without tint...

"typical" tint for my car was $200, you're not reading the whole thing correctly.??? I refused to pay to get my car darker just to get a ticket to remove it regardless what price i pay for the tint. IMO anything under legal limits is just irresponsible.

call your local shop and ask them how much Ceramic tint ALL windows cost.. This was the cheapest i've found it in my area of Georgia and the most was $550.
Open a shop and sell tint for $150 all around, I will be there before you close your doors.

I guess, I had 5% all around on my grand prix and got pulled over one time but that also has to do with your area I guess. Going darker is just opinion and nothing irresponsible about it, that is like saying I drive the speed limit, anything over 55 is irresponsible. Personally my 14 max is the lightest I have ever gone on any of my cars. I just think that is A LOT of money to barely see tint on a vehicle, but again opinon. Besides that your car looks very nice, and my guy said he would do ceramic tint for 200 for the whole car.

Just in case you think I am lying----

Metro Tint is having a sale! BEST DEALS IN TOWN!Any year, make, and model qualifies. $125 will get you whole car tinted(everything but windshield) with our standard film. Normal price is $200. It comes with a lifetime warranty. $200 will get your whole car tinted in our ceramic film

It's illegal!!! When did doing something illegal on purpose not irresponsible ? and THEN we have to read a rant about a cop that was being a blotch because you got a ticket for removal. And I assuming that when people get 5% tint in is in a state that does not have tint restrictions.

It looks great but I had to remove my front tint as it isn't legal here in fl and I really couldn't deal with the night time glare (and I drive a lot.)

You have my sincere hopes that your son's condition improves and you must be a great dad to do this for him. Just limit your night driving and you should be good.

Folks. everyone take a chill pill here. Some states are VERY sticky with their TINT laws. What works for you, won't work for some of the rest of us. No sense arguing over that.

As far as prices are concerned, again, every state, city and town and tint shop is going to charge what they choose to charge. Here in Florida where there's someone to Tint your windows on every street corner, your basic tint job is fairly cheap.

Really hard to be comparing the laws of Missouri to the laws of Georgia, etc.

Nothing more to "argue" about.

Oh btw, I like the blue. However, if your front windshield is tinted below the ASE marks, don't drive into Florida. You can most definitely get ticketed for that.

Yeah my little guy thanks me for it, Next on the list is the Autostart which someone wonderful on this forum did a great writeup about that…Going to buy it maybe this week and give it a try, kind've wish I would've done it before the winter hit but it is what it is.
Besides polishing my car I don't think I will be doing anything else to far as upgrades.

It kind of boils down to the area you are in. Like in a certain part of Miami I go to a few times a year I got pulled over twice in a week for the tints. That part of miami robbers ect tend to have illgegal tints and drive Maximas. But in north florida i've been driving with 5-15% tints and never got pulled over in 4 years. I know how Ga is I would be cautious if I have to drive through there. The only time I cant see something is if a car does not have it's headlights on at night combined with no street lights.

Why is it worth $350? is it sprinkled with diamonds? Am i missing something? Is Bill Gates doing the labor? I dont know why there is such a huge price gap between the hood prices and wherever you guys get ripped off at... I know the most the shop I go to would charge is ~$120 but that would include removal of old tints.... Are they making ray ban tints?

@ Zoe some tint is cheap and some is expensive. Some come with guarantees and some turn purple over time. Some are made of metallic and some are dyed and some are a hybrid. Some are heat resistant and some are not. There are qualities of tint and then there is the labor to install. It's easy if you know how it its a pain in the a$$ if you don't. I hope this helps but you can look on google or YouTube about tint types and you would be amazed at some of the heat resistance they can block. If you get a good quality tint with a guarantee and installed properly then good on ya! I paid about $200 for all but windshield with quality 3M crystalline tint fade free with a guarantee. There you go and keep cool!

SR I don't want to make an enemy of you but it's illegal ;-) My two small boys are blinded because of the roads to and from daycare everyday and I went dark. 20% on fronts and 5% all the way around the back. I also got the moonroof tinted with crystalline for heat resistance. So my caveat would be I'm aware of the illegality of it and I will pay the fine if and when I am pulled over. I have no issues at night or on my periphery of sight. I will say that the windshield is illegal here and I would like to put a light tint as this would help as well. I do it for the kids and the heat...and yes for the aesthetics too! I hope this is well received and makes sense. I would recommend if you get it tinted make sure it is done well and with quality product!

And yes I did wash it today! And no SR it's not wet I promise!

Also, don't forget that provided your optometrist isn't a tool he can issue you a notice/pass that gives you the okay for tint even if it's illegal in your state. You know, because your eyes are very sensitive to the light and such. ;-)

DUDE, how do you see at night? My wife would've killed me for having 5% all around that is Limo Tint…
I have one of those pull down window shade things but it don't work well with keeping the sun out of his face.

No problem Maine, I didn't know about it either. I guess some people think they are getting something better for less. I've learned you get what you paid for many times over and yes, there will always be those products out there that are just not worth it.

I remember when i said i would NEVER pay $200 for sunglasses.. Now, I can't pay less i refuse to ever put a cheaply made sunglasses on my face (the lens is what makes them cheap). So pay a little extra for a better product when money allows me to do so…I will.

I tell people "Pay a little now and a LOT later"

I feel honored to have brought some info to the table finally. I've been learning from you guys all along. I have 20% on front two but the rest is limo tint. Although limo tint is a misnomer too. Some people double 5% to get real limo quality. So true about you get what you pay for. Unfortunately that came with making more money and having less time. "Experience teaches fools...but a fool am I" not too many know the second part of that saying for some reason ;-)
We all learn from our experiences and appreciate the differences instead of critiquing them... Oh boy i need help off this soap box!

Thanks, I think so too. I can really feel the difference in the temp inside the car. I will keep everyone who cars updated on how I think it holds up to my other car with "regular" tint on it. For a New/Used car in the $20k+ range, I thought it was a cheap upgrade to take care of my investment ( I don't sell my cars).

I find it funny when people make expensive purchases they cheap out on the silly things.. I see this mostly when someone buys a house. As a plumber it was annoying.. $500k house and you want $30 fixtures.. Whatever, it still cost you $90 per faucet to install.

No way!!! Although I bet you could get yours painted or powdered for not too bad! It does look good. There are some interesting videos on YouTube about how much heat gets through certain tints. They are definitely not all created equal.

Nah, not that serious. I would rather buy a set from someone in the future. I've gotten older and love keeping things factory as possible. Well, The stillen lip is sexy honestly.. $500+ painted sexy???…

What is your take on the window spoiler?? I can't decide if it's trashy or classy.??

I don't know if the rear window needs a spoiler!?!? JK, I don't think it's as aesthetic as the lip or other pieces. I think if looks ok but I was never a fan of louvres back in the day! Remember those...ugh! I think the car looks clean without it and maybe cleaner without it. Depends on how much for cost and paint too. If it's inexpensive I might say go for it and if you don't like it you can always remove it. What's your thought?

Is the front tint on your car very noticeable?? The cops where I live crack down real hard on front windshield tint below the ASE line.
