Frequent CEL P0101 - Service Bulletin

Hey guys,

Since I got my car (2011 SV-Premium), I've dealt with getting a P0101 MAF a few times. Back in December when the CEL came on, I took it in and the MAF sensor was replaced under warranty. Over the last weekend the CEL returned, and guess what P0101 appeared again.

I got the car in today and apparently there is a service bulletin out for it.

According to the invoice:

Reprogrammed the ECM as per NTB12-051j.
Perform IAVL Procedure. Erased all DTC's. Test Drove.

I did a search on the forum for the NTB I was given and didn't see anything. So here is a post about it just in case you are having frequent occurrence of the code P0101.

I cant find it right now. but several months ago i was getting that code and had it cleared a couple of times by ORielley's. Then decided to get it checked, The dealer told me that there was a bulletin that covered that. They reprogrammed the ECM and it went away and never come back.

The car didn't seem to run any more different then it did before after the ECU reprogram. Nor would I expect really much of a change other than not getting frequent CEL's. Been a solid 3 months and have not seen a CEL. *knocks on wood*

Same thing with my 2010. I cleared it by pulling the neg battery cable for 10 min.
CEL hasn't returned, been about a year now.

You would think if there was anything wrong with the MAF then the light would come on a lot quicker than taking two weeks. I would look elsewhere for the cause.

Like a couple guys said.. You get the light... Why change a 400 usd sensor when the problem can be fixed free by the dealer. Takes them about 30 min or so. reprogram the ECM. problem solved... and it dont cost anything.. (at least mine didnt) a TSB covers it. Why take it to your buddy when the dealer already knows what and how to do it.. Just my personal opinion.

Agreed. Sure you can clear codes, or replace the sensor. However the TSB is a known issue, and you should make sure that your issue isn't that first. If you have not had the TSB done, I recommend you don't clear the code before going to the dealer to deal with it. Else they will say nothing is wrong and the repro may not come back for a little while.

Took it back today and they said they cleared the code. I don't think this is the right way to fix this problem. Car runs fine but if i have to take the car back every 2 weeks I give up lol plus its annoying! I cant stop thinking of what's wrong :/

With it being 105 degrees here now i was getting a cel for this quite often. I had to clean my K&N, take a look at how hot the intake was getting, and i got some MAF cleaner spray from autozone. Have not had an issue since.

In Texas it doesnt get as hot but still ive cleaned my intake every oil change and havent had this issue. Its just weird!

I forgot what the code actually spits out again. The guy from autozone said it but theres like 3 errors tied to that code.

Does anyone know what they are?

ECM Reprogramming?

Can anyone point me to the reprogramming procedure as referenced in this post?

My 2012 is long out of warrant, with 180,000 miles, and my mechanic is stumped as why (BOTH) cat converter codes come on as well as the MAS.

I try to avoid the stealer as much as possible and want to know what we can do to narrow down the culprit(s)?

Thanks,

Jay
