Back again with another 7th gen

So my wife's 2014 SV just got totaled a few weeks ago, unfortunately. It was a terrible high speed rear ending on the highway that pushed the car forward into a truck, only thing left intact on the car was the interior.

She was OK, so that's the best part.

We had a 2014 SV Gun Metallic with the value pack so that had all the heated stuff and the color monitor. It didn't even make it to a year old, had about 12k on it.

Long story short, just got a replacement for her. And went ahead and got a way nicer one this time w/ Sport+Tech package in Brilliant Silver.

At the dealer parking lot right after deal was done, first official pic.

Morning time in the parking lot, with ice and snow everywhere.

Do you guys think we made the right decision moving up to the Sport+Tech from a regular SV? Do you think the color choice is good or do you think the Gun Metallic looks better with sport package?

Wife was always worried that it would be much stiffer, but it's not and the extra features and especially seats are so much better IMO.

What do you guys think? And to those with the sports package, how are the 19" wheels in the snow?

Good to hear the old lady is alright, man. Just got rear-ended last year and my car was also a total loss (although it was a camry) and that's why I'm in the maxima now.

As far as people thinking you made the right decision - who cares! You made the decision and you seem to be pleased, that's all that really matters.

My '13 is an SV Value package, so I'm quite envious of those 19" sport rims you're rocking.

Thanks man! The 19" wheels do look pretty awesome if I do say so myself.

And it's not that I care what people think, just want to know how people feel about the sport vs. regular SV and maybe how those 19's are in the snow from those with such experience

Looks great. She's happy. Your happy. What's not to like. I've been married 12 yrs so "happy wife happy life!" I've got a '10 and '14. My '14 is just like your wife's except gun metal. Great car and too good on deal to pass up. As far as snow, it's ok but 290hp and FWD with the RSA's are not the best combo in snow. Just take it easy as torque steer can be easily induced as well as understeer in snow. Good luck and I love the silver with the color wheels. Mine don't stand out as much so I would say perfect choice and decision :-)

^^ Very true. Thanks for reply.

I figured the 19's with RSA isnt the most ideal winter setup, to say the least lol

Maybe we'll just get another set of 18"s to switch out for winter.

As for color, we were looking at the silver and gun side by side. Decided on silver for the same reason you mentioned - sport pck. stands out so much more.

I too am glad your wife is ok.

Congrats on the new Max! Car looks great man. I went with the silver as well because of the contrast. Not a sport, but the same holds true regarding the color. My first choice was the white Premium... I was actually considering a dark slate with the black roof, but it kind of blended in. I then saw the silver premium....I was sold. If you add the black splitter and rear black diffuser, I think it would add to the look.

Good to hear the car did its job re: cockpit protection, scary stuff!

I had Sport wheels on for a few weeks earlier in the Winter through a few light snowfalls. It wasn't terrible but did slide a bit more than I was comfortable with. I picked up a nice looking set of 17 inch winter wheels/tires which are ten times better of course. I figured it would keep the 19s nicer not subjecting them to salt and potholes. Also, smaller winter tires are much cheaper than replacement 19 inch tires will be.

I also like the silver color on the Sport. I was torn between the white and silver myself. Through some tint on there and it will really stand out!

^^ You guys are right on point, thanks for chiming in

The totaled Maxi did very well IMO standing up to impact, in the rear the floor was bent all the way in to the back seat. But interior was untouched, minus the airbag deployment. I consider it a well built chassis for sure after seeing the impact.

The silver really does look awesome with either the sport, or premium with the black roof.

I think rear diffuser and splitter definitely will make it that much better.

As for wheels, looks like we'll definitely be getting a 2nd (smaller/thinner) set for next winter.

Definitely needs some tint as well, that will likely be the 1st thing on the list.

Just wanted to post these pics here so you guys can see the aftermath of the accident and how well the car held up:

It got rear ended by a Toyota Highlander going about 70mph while the Maxima was rolling to a stop going about 5mph on the brakes. Traffic in front, so then it got pushed forward real hard into a stopped truck, all while full on the brakes. There were skid marks about 10ft long from it being pushed forward.

I have to say, this is a well built vehicle. This kind of impact in some other cars would've most definitely been disastrous.

Damn! I'm glad she's okay man! But I have the 2010 sv sport with Tech package and I'm rocking the 2012+ sport rims with the 2012+ grille and taillights. I have the hyper silver rims so I'm very envious of your gun metal ones lol but I think you made a great choice with the sport!!

Thanks to all you guys for the support!

Very happy with the new one, even though the wife somehow said it was almost too flashy and stands out in every parking lot.

Personally, I disagree. Love the car.

Lol well yeah george, 5th gen is 14 years old.

I think the 5th gen is still very nice for its age. As for 7th gen, its built in 12/2014 so its definitely one of the newest ones, had 4 miles on it when we left the dealer lot.

Duh -_-"... I was speaking more on the design philosophy between the two cars. They try to push the gen 7 as a full size "luxury" sedan but the Gen 5 design seems far more appropriate than the screaming race car design of the gen 7.

Hm, I'm not sure I know what you mean. I thought the Maxima was pushed as a 4dsc.

It's not a luxury car, its a Nissan...but you do get Infiniti level interior. As for the sporty look 7th gen, its just fine IMO considering it does outperform everything in its class and has a WAY better interior with more features and comfort, as well as a smaller price tag while doing it.

A ton of reviews call it a entry level luxury sedan designed to fight the likes of a Toyota Avalon

Are you going to plastic the front with a clear bra? Any mods?

^^ Thanks guys. That really does put you more at ease seeing that it really is quite a safe car.

George, a ton of reviews are written by clueless idiots, I've read many of them. Usually every luxury car they compare it to costs like $3-8k more, and despite the Maxima not being a luxury car it still wins all their comparisons (esp. performance)...Then they put it in last place? Hahaa

Lots of haters, they put Avalon above Maxima even tho the interior and seats of the new Avalon and all other Toyota products feel like they were made in China!

Glad your precious one (wife, not car) is OK. The car clearly absorbed much of the impact, leaving her safe as a sardine in a sardine can.

I personally feel the 19" wheels/tires should be no different than the 18" wheels/tires in the snow since they are the same tire width. Pavement contact area should be very similar.

Of course taller profile snow/winter tires on a 17 inch rim would be best in winter time.

I really like the brilliant silver. Shows up more than gunmetal in good light.

^^ Thanks! Always good to hear from one of the vets.

We actually got about 8" of snow today and tested the new Maxima...The 19's are fine but you do have to watch yourself a bit more around turns as they definitely tend to slide a bit more due to the stiffer rubber.

Besides that, I really dont want to use those beautiful 19" wheels in winter anyhow. We will surely have a set of plain 18's or even 17's ready to switch out by the time next winter comes around with snow rubber.

And yes, brilliant silver was looking beautiful in todays snow storm. The gun metal sports package has a unique look as everything matches. But, the silver just looks outstanding when light hits it.
