Considering getting my windshield done in addition to 20% on all my other windows. Was going to do a very light 70% 3M, but I'm not sure if it's worth it. Really want to do it more for the glare and heat reduction but living in NYC I'm not trying to have any legal issues. Opinions and pictures would be appreciated, thanks.
Personally, I wouldn't suggest it. Nyc isn't too bad when it comes to sun/heat plus I know city officers are very aggressive and windshield tints are asking for trouble not to mention its a bit of a safety hazard at night.
Many jurisdictions don't bother with pulling people over for tint violations unless it's extremely slow, they're a rookie, or you car looks good for something else (ie drug or guns) so many will use tints as a reason to pull traffic. Unless you're in a low crime area most city officers will not bother with 20% tints. On the flipside, almost all will get you for windshield tints due to the safety concerns.
Personally, I say just enjoy your 20% tints on the rest of the windows and get yourself a good windshield visor for parking outside and a good pair of sunglasses for driving.
I would say it's up to you to know your area and do some homework on how the police are with this type of thing. Maybe you have some buddies that can tell you their experiences?
I get where you're coming from because tinting all the way around, including the windshield makes the car look so much better. It really does. 20% is the perfect level IMO too.
In my state, any tint other than factory is illegal, regardless of the percent. From what I've seen and heard, the police in my town are more likely to pull you over if you have anything darker than 35%, so that's what I went with. So far, so good.
As for the windshield, I have not done it yet because I just feel like I'd be really reaching if I did and would be more susceptible to being pulled over too. I think I will go with the ceramic tint for the front windshield; it's definitely not what I want, but it's better than your typical clear factory windshield and will still clearly show the ASI line for the police to see so you'd be less likely to be pulled over.
Check it out, there is a thread in the 7th gen forum with pics from not long ago at all titled, "Ceramic Window Tint" or something like that.
I have the llumar air blue 80 on my windshield, you can't even notice it is on there. There is no way a cop would notice it. I live in Florida and it makes a pretty big difference in keeping the car cool, im really glad I got it done. My car is getting fixed but I should have it this week and I can take some pics. I think it's worth it alone just to keep the sun from messing up the interior.
70% on top of ur current tint would hardly be noticed. 70% is hardly a tint at all. The only way a cop would know is if they use a tint meter. I've worked in tint shops for years & there's barely a difference even in on the inside of the car. It may be a small if you have dark interior but it's hardly noticeable. All in all I would say it's personal preference but there's hardly a difference when adding 70.

If you have an email or a number i can send you some pic of my car with the front windshield tinted. its good if you live in florida. only thing sucks is at nite sometime on dark roads lol. but the overall look is worth it. i have 35 on my front just to darken up the inside a little since people could see thru the factory tint that was done on the car.
Check with your state. Here in CA, any darkness of tint is allowed on the windshield, just can't be below 6" from the top.
On my Xrunner, I have a full clear windshield "tint" which drastically reduced the heat. I no longer get into a hot truck, just a warm one. I also put a limo tint strip on top of that, just on the top 6" of the windsheild to reduce being blinded from the late afternoon or crack of dawn sun.

You gotta think about if you get into a wreck also. More than likely you will be at fault for your tinted windshield.
Cops will likely not notice that light of a widow tint at all. However, what you said is 100% correct. Even though your vision is not impaired by the tint, IF the tint is found on there the insurance company's counsel will void your coverage and you will be entirely liable. I know someone this has happen to who rear ended someone on an off ramp with minimal damage but had windshield tint. If the tint is not legal you are liable period.
This is a great addition...but it is highly illegal as the tint is past the AS1 line on your windshield! If you do it light it will not be noticeable unless someone looks at the little dots around the edge of the windshield. I lived in Kansas years ago and the glare from the snow and sun was awful and I did this to knock it down...Use a 50% and it will be perfect. Add the windshield eyebrow and it will look perfect!!
I have my windshield tinted at 70% and i love it. It does make a difference when it comes to heat resistance. I don't notice anything different visually when looking through it other than being a hair darker. I have glasses with transition lenses and my lenses still activate. I hope the pictures up load. it's kind of hard to see the windshield well in the picture but these are what I had on my cell at the time.
There is a new tint on the market, some like Sky Blue 80.
It is an 80% tint that is blue instead of grey, and nearly undetectable while still stopping 100% uv.
Maxima 2016 50% windshield tint and 15% all around
I just got my Maxima 2016 and totally love it. I live in Florida so the sun really takes a toll on you. This is the first time putting tints on the windshield and it works great so far and the look is very nice.
