So this happened...
I own a 2010 Nissan Maxima which I bought back on December 30, of 2013. A week later (January 2014) I noticed water leaking from the panoramic sunroof. I am immediately brought it to the dealer and they were unable to recreate the issue or find anything wrong. Out of trust, I believed them and off I went. Fast forward to January of 2015, I notice water leaking again. A full year of nothing, and now water. I bring it to another Nissan dealer and they tell me its a weather seal that has went bad and it won't be covered under warranty as my vehicle is currently out of warranty. I say ok, I will get it fixed in the summer and off I go again. Fast forward again to February 27, 2015. I am driving down a local highway here in NJ and my entire sunroof detaches from the vehicle. Mind you, the sunroof was completely closed at the time and wind was minimal. Bring my car back to the dealer AGAIN, and Nissan is still saying they won't cover. The dealership is trying to push for Nissan corporate to have it covered but they are playing hardball. Cost of replacement is estimated at $1200, which I refuse to pay, since under no circumstance should a roof assembly detach from a vehicle. Mind you, I have been without a vehicle now since February 27th. Any advice on how I can push Nissan to get this covered? I miss my Maxima despite the missing sunroof lol.
I had a 99 Camaro z with t-tops and i didnt have one locked down one day and was just cruising out on the highway and all of a sudden vawhoom. Gone. I see it in the rearview mirror shattered all over the highway. That was my bad.
But this, whew. I think mine is missing a weather seal and it shakes a little when coming back down, but ill check the rigidity of this later today. I have the pano roof and certainly cannot afford another one like the camaro.
Like whats left up there? And where has the car been since?

That's terrible and a some kind of part failure. A seal shouldn't, couldn't or can't cause that type of catastrophic failure. I'm assume no one was hurt which is lucky being in a populated area on a roadway. Nissan has to own this, warranty or no. Someone's roof should not fly off. Good luck.
what the f8c?
cost cutting to the (MAXIMAAA) right there.
Someone could have gotten glass shards and flying debris all over themselves, car etc. NOT NORMAL!
I don't get how a sunroof detaching is your fault though

You crack me up, George. Although I feel for the OP and agree with everyone that Nissan should cover it, I have literally never heard of this issue happening on any other 7th gen Maxima. Not once. It's certainly a one-off situation and not a common problem.
But okay, cost cutting to the Maxima right there! That's the ticket!

No one here should be saying Nissan Should cover it. It could of been repaired/replaced somehow. Could of had some damage. There is more to the story. Nissan simply cant deny this claim without having done some kind of investigation. If it was cost cutting than we would of heard of this happening on more than one occasion.

what a lucky guy! I didn't know Nissan made a convertible Maxima....must be an option on the new NISMO package!
Seriously, if you or the previous owner didn't modify or repair anything dealing with the roof then I am pretty disappointed with Nissan. Shame on them for not doing the right thing. Best of luck to you my friend....hope it works out! If not you may actually consider modding your car to make it the first drop top Maxima. (You're half way there already)

Quick update: Nissan did no sort of investigation and are solely basing their decision on the fact that the cover is out of warranty. They did not even contact the dealership for any sort of history on the car. I called to file a claim and received a response of simply not covering it and that was the end of it. I have a third party warranty company that is also not covering it due to the fact that it is glass and glass is not covered. I am fighting with them for them to understand that the glass is not what failed, its the mechanism or seal or whatever holds the glass in place. I spoke with a couple of lawyer friends and they are saying its not worth it. I will post some pictures of it today. I am extremely disappointed with Nissan's consumer affairs as they have literally done nothing. I have already filed reports with the NHTSA and BBB in regards to this matter. The car has zero modification. I did put in an audio system but the issue was present prior to that installation. I reported the roof leaking and making noise a week after I purchased the car. I have attached photos for you guys to see. I will post better ones once I see he car again. Its been 3 f*cking weeks.
That's what I was just thinking as well, long shot because it's a sunroof, but glass should be covered for free with option 1 insurance, or at least pay the $500 dollar deductible although I know you don't want to come out of pocket, you might need to for now to get it sorted out and get recouped when your lawyers get nissan to cough the money up....that's a really bad situation though, I feel for you
Yup...looks like I will be going through insurance. FYI, never bother calling Nissan or visit Meadowlands Nissan. They are by far the worst personnel I have had the pleasure of dealing with. Never call back, never a straight answer, and on top of that they tried sticking me with a $120 diag fee after this one month ordeal. I am picking up my car tonight at 6PM and just getting it done by insurance. I am so fed up with Nissan I may actually get rid of my car. I feel like everytime I drive it now I am going to be pissed off.
I'm actually satisfied with the service I got at royal palm, however I am extremely pissed about the service I got from calling nissan directly. I'm going to try and file a complaint against the chick who I spoke to for giving me such an attitude.
Car is being fixed today by my insurance. I'm just glad to have my car back. Sick of this Hyundai loaner lol. On a side note, hell hath no fury like a woman's scorn. My wife has been going off on Nissan corporate over the phone and on twitter. You guys should check it out. It's quite interesting. And retweet if you feel like it

LINK!!!
Sounds stupid but the ONLY way I have gotten a response and fixed with companies is too take it too twitter, there are A LOT of customers and they will get back to you VERY fast that way, did that with adt and att
Was it ever determined why the glass panel separated in the first place? If that wasn't identified, the possibility of another release is quite possible.
From the guy that did the replacement, he said it was due to sunroof delamination. Basically, the adhesive that was used was either weak or corroded.
