And At The Local Exhaust Shop...

Today's rainy weather in Chicago left me looking for something to do.
So I took a ride down to the local exhaust shop to get a little install done...
(Sorry about the filthy car)

$1200 for the Motordyne cat-back exhaust. I love it. Very nice performance sound--- doesn't sound like a fart can or ricey at all. Nice growl.
Here's someone's YouTube video on the Motordyne exhaust. The second half of the video is the cat-back exhaust using the OEM Nissan y-pipe which is the setup I currently have.

I bought the Motordyne Art Y-pipe as well but decided to see if I get any grief from police before switching y-pipes. Illinois is so anti-modding.I've even gotten tickets for tinted windows before... IL law states that you can NOT put any after market exhaust system in a car that is louder than the OEM exhaust.

That, and the exhaust shop that installed the cat back flat out said that they wouldn't do the y-pipe install saying that it'd be illegal for them to.

Raining all day or I might have done a video myself but this one represents the sound well...

I'm all about performance gains but for me, it actually sounds a little better IMO with the stock y pipe....just a little smoother and more mellow but both have a nice aggressive sound...

On the videos I still really can't hear much of a difference from the AAM, but man that look SOOO much cleaner then my AAM. The tips don't stick way out and they sit up close to the bumper and they are even. My AAM doesn't do any of that...

The only thing is sound vs performance. By skipping the y-pipe, you get all the sound and none of the performance gain.
Doing just the y-pipe, you get all the performance with only some of the sound.

The lady at Motordyne said that these were their new tips with their logo etched on it. They bolt on to the rear pipes so there is the ability to adjust them to stick out a little more if I wanted. I chose to keep them just past the bumper to give it a lower-key look from the IL police and make it look more stock (if you ignore the burnt tips... LOL).

The exhaust is 2.5″ inlet and dual 3″ exhaust tubes and finished with 4.5 inch tips.
Not sure about y-pipe since I haven't opened the box cuz I'm holding off on install for now. But just like the Racingline y-pipe, I think the performance gains are due to the less-restrictive bends...

Thanks. I'd be interested in the y pipe size whenever you end up opening the box.
