it shoots up slightly...very minor though. I read further into this and some people are saying an engine knock when coming to an stop and it describes my situation perfectly. when i am coming to a stop the engine knocks

Doesn't sound normal. Check the transmission fluid. It may need to be changed. Dealer may charge you to take a look at it, but call and ask and provide them a VIN.

I get a bit of a click (almost like the sound of a car doors locking from when you are onthe outside) around 40km/h on accelerate I was told there was a bit of a engine check that happens -- its a little annoying but you will get used to it,

Not sure if that is the same thud -- there is also a bit of an engine brake on the CVT's could the two be related?

Are you coming from a car that had a regular transmission?

When I first got my 2010 I recall a few times when stopped or just about stopped, the car would lurch as if I had been hit by the guy behind me. With some experimenting it appears that I was not pressing on the brake enough. With just a lite pressure on the petal the car would sometimes seem to "lurch" or"thud", just applying a little more pressure on the brake pedal eliminated the sudden thud or lurch.

The torque converter locks at 19 mph that you will feel when you come to a stop. Car does have engine braking in regular D and more aggressive engine braking in Ds mode, but it should not have an audible or heavy thump at 50 mph.
