Recommendation for a jack and jack stands
Recommendation for a jack and jack stands
Which jack and jack stands are you guys using to work on your car? Any recommendations? I plan to change my rear brake pads really soon.
I have a 69 Cougar that weighs 2.5 tons which is more than the Maxima. I bought a Craftsman 3 ton floor jack and 2 3 ton jack stands and don't have a problem. When I change my oil at home I use car ramps.
I've had a small harbor freight floor jack that cost me ~$30 for years (http://www.harborfreight.com/2-ton-c...ack-68783.html). Bought a $80 model from there that was much bigger, looked more like something you'd see on a car repair show, and it sits unused most of the time in favor of the old $20 jack...even when I'm lifting my full size pickup.
$30 jack and some jackstands from harbor freight and you're set.

I rotate my tires every 2nd oil change and sometimes change my oil at home. I like the 3 ton jack because I can lift two wheels at the same time when rotating them. I think I paid about $65 bucks for it.
Arcan 3.5 ton or 3.25 from Costco. Best jack for the money. It has low profile so fits most cars. Sears craftsman 3 or 4 ton jacks.
Whatever you buy NEVER get under the car without jack stands.
While some HF stuff is ok, I would personally not want to experience a jack failure.

I want to thank everyone for their input...I want to hold up either the rear or fronts at the same time so I'll probably end up going with 2 Craftsman - 3 ton jacks and the floor jack from harbor freight...I had no idea Costco sold jacks...I will definitely check those out when I get a chance...low profile is a +
Craftsman from Sears make good stuff. Word of advice do not go cheap on the jack stands because I have seen them fail. And you do not want to be under your car when one does. Spend a little bit of money for a descent set.

It may weight more, but the clearance on it can not be beat! It is also rated
for 3.5t
Unfortunately you cant predict what Costco will have in stock, its not a regular item, however at $99 you can't beat their prices. NT has them at $169.
