Thumbs down 2011 Nissan Maxima CVT Failure at 57,000 Miles

Add my CVT to the list that have failed. At 57,000 my 2011 Maxima’s CVT was replaced. I started driving on a cold morning and after less than a mile the Service Engine Light came on. Prior to the SEL I had no warning.

The code on the light was P0744 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit. On the way to the dealer I noticed a lack of power especially up hills. It took the dealer a day to diagnose and a week to have the transmission replaced. During this time they gave me a loaner at no charge. I got the car used a year ago with 35,000 miles on it. I had a strut and the tires replaced, I suspect that the previous owner was a little abusive to the car.

I have noticed after driving 3,000 miles the new CVT isn’t as smooth as the old CVT. It doesn’t happen all the time but on occasion If I take my foot of the gas to coast and slow down when I accelerate again there is a noticeable jolt forward. I never felt this with the old CVT. It happens mostly at highway speeds but it has done it in stop and go traffic too. I took it back to the dealer and they said its working fine and did not feel the problem. If it becomes more frequent I will bring it back and complain again. The new CVT only has 1 year 12,000 mile warranty.

Could the motor mounts be part of the jolt sensation you are feeling?
