A/C Problems

Hello guys,

As title says, I'm having a/c problems. Air is not blowing cold. I recharged the freon but that did not fix so took to Firestone for their $9.99 a/c check . Results was bad compressor (smh) quoted me $1200 for entire job.

My question is about the difficulty of this job. Autozone has the compressor for $400+ and RockAuto has some $150-300 so I thought I could save some money by doing it myself. I have moderate to intermediate skills under the hood but have never attempted a compressor switch.

Does anyone have any advice about this job or maybe links to a write-up. I have searched the forum but haven't found anything.

Thanks in advance.

I havent done the compressor on my maxima but I just did it on my Yukon Denali. Stay away from autozone and go with Rockauto or oem. Space is extremely limited but the job isn't terrible but if you're going to open up the ac system then you should replace all of the parts as it could lead to poor performance down the road.

Honestly, if Firestone is going to charge $1200, what is the dealership going to charge? For that kind of money, I'd rather Nissan fix it. Anything more than $1500, I'm not sure I would get it fixed at all. You can put a down payment on a new Maxima for $2000. Some of the prices at these auto stores are insane, and then they turn around and don't guarantee the work past 90 days.
