Angry 2013 Maxima Knocking Noise

Good day all,

I'm a new member with this being my 2nd or 3rd posting, but now I've found a problem. My wife pulled in the driveway yesterday and I heard a loud knocking sound that I thought was a lifter tapping the cover. The sound seemed to be coming from the left side of the engine around number 1 or 2 piston area. You can't hear it from inside the vehicle only standing in front and only when it's hot. The car has 56002 miles, fresh oil and filter and runs great other than this knocking. I found this TSB NTB-12-071-A in a prior thread which explain the problem to a tee. I did purchase an additional 3/36000 extended bumper to bumper warranty to prevent me from laying on my back and fixing issues. Would this be considered part of the power train, 'Knocking noise coming from number 1 crankshaft main bearing, not heard when cold, knocking noise is heard when vehicle is lifted, or at warm idle. Model 2009-2014" Vehicle was purchased in TN 3 weeks ago from non nissan dealer. Took the car back to purchasing dealer today, and they says it's beyond the technical expertise and made appointment with local nissan dealer for next week. Do I contact Nissan customer care prior to appointment? Thnx in advance for any and all help!

knocking at idle

Get it to a Nissan dealer ASAP and let them know about the TSB you found. It is a power train warranty issue and they will fix it. They did mine last year and the repair has fixed the problem. It will take a few days in the shop and they may or may not give you a loaner tho.

I had to make an appointment, so I'm scheduled to drop it Wed next week. Did they repair or replace the head? Under Powertrain warranty that should secure a loaner, plus I have the additional bumper to bumper. Driving it as less as possible because I know the pitfall of what could happen. Have a Happy 4th!

Contacted Nissan today and they opened a file and gave me my case number. The rep acted kind of dumb, and it sounded as if she was in India, however gave me a TN fax number tor sales contract since it was purchased through a chevrolet dealer. Waiting like Heinz Ketchup, Anticipation!

I had that issue when I purchased my 2010 in 2014 with 36K miles... I waited until I was up to about 59K and brought the car in. They replaced the entire engine for me

Thank you for the reply and information. I have a good idea of what to expect Wednesday. Replacing the engine sounds better than just the bearing and better. Did they extend the warrenty or continued the same powertrain.

It seems the hotter the engine the louder the knocking sound. Do you remember how long it took them to complete it. Can you feel a difference in the engine performance and was it a break in period?

Thanks for the invoice again, they are doing the same thing and I should have it back Monday. I inquired why wasn't anything sent out pertaining to the knocking? "They only fix once the complaint come in", and they gave me a rental and the additional 12,000 mile warranty. Thanks again

That's awesome; Nissan knows the problem exist when referencing the TSB 12-071-A. However, they will not fix anything until the owner complain of this knocking. Have a great day!
