I have a maxima 2013. The gas cap is opened when you tap on it. However when all the doors are closed, it could be opened by the same way. I was wondering it should not be locked when the doors are locked and the remote key is not close to it? I mean I can close it but everybody can open it. Is it a problem?

It's only a problem if you want it locked. You probably have something wrong with the door cap locking actuator. The door cap should lock when lock up the car using the remote or the door buttons.

Check that the metal tab on the edge of the door is not bent inward. I am assuming you're referring to the door, not the cap?

Yes I am referring to the fuel door which covers the cap. The edge of the door was not bending.

I didn't even know the fuel door is supposed to lock when you lock the car. I guess I should check this feature as well. Several times when going to get gas I found the fuel cover ajar like it had been pressed and that bothered me. Thanks for the thread. Learn something new everyday.
