2011 "Safe Mode" - what is suggested Diagnostic work flow?

Holiday Greetings!
I live in North Texas and had a bit of a cold snap last night. My mighty 2011 Maxima S started up ok, drove about 3 miles and tire pressure warning light came on (no worried there) but it also went into SAFE / LIMP mode. What is suggested process / workflow to debug? Should I buy a OBD2 scanner and if so any recommendation on brand/model.

Car: 2011 Nissan maxima S, 88k miles. New Transmission installed by Nissan dealer at 59,450 miles (still under warranty).
No other problems....ususal maint. on fluids, filters etc.

Thanks!

Take it to the dealership for diagnosis. If you want instead of buying an scanner take the car to Auto zone for a free scan. Your car is in limp mode because it is protecting itself from further damage.
