CVT whir
Hi,
I've seen many thread regarding CVT whir/whine, but most of them seem to relate to noise occurring at higher engine speeds or when temps get hot. Just recently I have been hearing a whir on light acceleration on start up, when the engine cold. It's hard to describe the sound - a bit high pitched and "revving up". It seems to go away pretty quick, but now I am hearing it almost every time I start the car after it has rested (like overnight, or after being in the parking garage at work for the day). Any ideas? This is a 2012 with 88K miles.
Thanks!

I have the same "issue" if it was actually an issue.
the first time when car is cold and start driving, and CVT advances in gears (if we call them gears), it has some "thud" or grind or whatever you describe it. Just one time per cold start and launch. Then it goes away after that.
That's by the way in 2 Maximas, 2011 and 2009, 78k and 82k. Both have recent CVT fluid drain and refill. I guess it's normal?

I wonder after it get's nice and hot, 70-80 mph steady, does it make the sound then too? My 07 used to do that all the time once she got hot, 5-7 minutes at highway speed no slowing down, then when I got off at an exit, the car was very sluggish for quite a few minutes...then it would run as normal. Surface street speed I never had the problem, dealership was never able to "duplicate" it, I finally traded it in, was done with that charade.
