HID to Halogen

Hi, all! This is my first post, so I say "How's it going, all?"

I have a 2012 Maxima SV, that came with HID bulbs. They're getting too expensive to continuously replace. After replacing the bulbs a few times, I noticed there were cracks in the covers in both left and right side of the headlights, so I was just going to replace both sides with brand new headlights. Like the housing and everything. Because the ones I found are like 550 to 700 a pair, and I am very tight on money, would I just be able to replace them with halogen ones? I found replacements that were under 200 and I need them anyway to pass inspection.

A little background... I can't put in new bulbs because the cracks in the headlight covers make the headlights condensate, so the bulbs are constantly getting wet and shorting out. This is on both headlights of the car. I need to just replace both of them, but I can't keep spending 100 dollars on bulbs and warranties. And I really don't want to blow 600 dollars on HID headlights.

Continuously replace? Like how often do you have to replace them? Because as long as it’s not cheap crap that was 19.99 shipped from China, legit HID bulbs should last a couple years

The cracks in the headlight housing, like the cover, is making the inside condensate, therefore, the igniter and bulbs keep shorting out. I have replaced the bulb on the passengers side several times because of this. So, when the driver's side did the same thing, I already knew I needed to replace the whole thing.

I just need to know if I can buy halogen headlights for my Maxima. It's too expensive to buy HID lights.

Your going from from hid to halogen so if I’m not mistaken you might have to rewire. Not but I had to rewire when I went fromhalogen to hid.

I've been using Morimoto HIDs from The Retrofit Source, and I have to replace the bulbs/ballast approx once a year. Good thing they came with a 5 year warranty!

I just can't purchase any for that price right now. My inspection is due too and I can't pass without working headlights. I just really need to know if there's a way I can just buy the whole halogen assembly and see if they work. Even if I have to rewire some stuff, I can't seem to find anything on converting HID to halogen. I might just learn to do it myself and post another board on how to do it to help some people out. Not everyone can afford 600 dollar headlamps...

Got it. You deff got to either fix the cracks or replace the housings before buying new bulbs. Try finding used housings at a junk yard.

I tried that. Most had just the housings for 200 to 300 dollars each. Even still, I'd have to get new igniters, new bulbs, possibly a new ballast for the driver's side because not even the turn signal or brights work on that side... It's still going to be so much. I've been really hating this week.

You can technically convert to LED bulbs. Check Amazon for D2S LEDs... They are usually waterproof so you won't have a problem with condensation, and you can get a pair for around $40. Good luck.

Damn you have to replace once a year? That sucks. Everything I have is morimoto from the retrofit source too.

No I've been changing them like everyday to every week. I first got the expensive ones from AutoZone, they had warranty, got another one, then the other side blew out, and I replaced them both, under warranty, then they were out again. I then (somehow) managed to get a refund, and then purchased some on Amazon for like 20 dollars. They too blew out, I also had replacement warranty, and then they blew out again. I saw the condensation in the beginning, but I thought it was dirty at first. It was only until all this and I finally took a good look at them and saw cracks in both of them. It did hail over here a long time ago. I've been driving with no headlights for months but now the inspection is due...
