I am looking to buy a 2013 Maxima with about 100k miles on it. I figured that the 7th gens do not have the transmission problems that the 6th gen had, and their engines last pretty much forever. However, I had been burned buying a 6th gen with high miles 8 years ago with transmission issues. From everyone's experience, at what mileage did you start having large repair costs?

All dependent on maintenance. At 100K, if they've never touched the CVT fluid I might have concern. If the engine was kept up with oil changes, you are good. All cars have parts that go, at 6-7 years old and 100K miles suspension components, brakes, etc. probably need some attention unless they were replaced previously. That age and mileage combo means likely mostly highway driving, which is a good thing.

High mileage, high risk. You just never know until you've had the car for a few months and discover what's really wrong. As stated, if the maintenance is up to date and there is proof...that's a good start.

Agreed, If the car was properly maintained then I wouldn't worry to much!

Get one with maintenance records so you can see for yourself.....dealer serviced is even better....we got dudes with 400 k on original parts that do it on time and that's why they last long......also you can change the fluids to be extra safe too right away. Spending that extra 100$$ can save thousands lol later on.

I agree too on all that, but it's not like you easily and readily find hundreds of 7th gen Maximas that are close to be seen, desired color, desired mileage, desired condition, and optimal price range, luck plays a lot in this situation. Sometimes (many times) you have to make sacrifices. Luckily my 09 was 1 owner, Harrisburg Nissan maintained for 8 years, heck the 1 owner even put the boutique Nissan ester oil every 4k miles in it lol..
