Suspension / Spring Recommendation(s)

Hello Everyone,

I have a ‘12 Maxima (SV), and have recently needed to attached a tow hitch to transport a wheel chair type carrier to my max.

Can the board help recommend any suspension/ spring combos to help maintain my car elevated? I could only find posts where the combos actually lowered the trim.

Im hoping to find a combo that can uphold 300-500 Lbs without affecting the compression.

any help would help me and family.

-JC

You may be better off looking up a shop that converts minivans for the handicapped. They jack up the back for wheel chairs. Your Max can handle the 500lbs, it will be low. My only two other recommendations is to replace your rear struts with a high performance struts, not entirely sure if it will help. The other is something I know very little about but my redneck friends used hockey pucks to lift their trucks. Take note that I used the word "Redneck". I think it's a leaf spring thing (which you don't have) but I don't know.

Thank you Ed. I didn’t know those types of shops existed.

i have access to a military auto hobby shop, so I was hoping to knock out some replacements myself. Is there any particular high performance strut/ spring combos you can think of ?

The inexpensive air bag inserts might take care of your issue. I didn't see any for a 7th gen maxima, but I just did a quick look. You might find something with some research time. There is a Firestone Coil-Rite (part number: 4105) that fits the 6th gen maximas. If the coils are close to the same size on 6th and 7th gens then it would probably work....it isn't a precision set up. I think the Murano coils are similar in size too - there are also kits for Muranos. It would be a gamble, but you could experiment with one of those and see if it works. Another manufacturer of the same basic product is Air-Lift (something like the 60774 might work with a little modification on your part).
They are adjustable with a shrader valve like what is on your tire. You can add air or remove air through the valve to stiffen the ride up, like you were airing up your tire.
