Interlock relay wiring issues

Hello,

I have been battling with my wife’s 13 for over a year with an inconsistent interlock. I believe I may have a work-around for the issue and wanted to get others feedback that are far more familiar with these vehicles than I am. I know there are may post out there about the interlock but, didn’t stumble across this particular scenario/question

As mentioned the interlock lock has been acting up sporadically for over a year. It will fail a couple of times in a week then be good for months. Each time I pull the console and shifter to start checking for power/ground it immediately begins working. This started me on the path of wiring but, as everyone knows, sometimes wiring is like chasing a ghost. Well, finally it gave out this weekend and has consistently failed numerous times giving me the opportunity to troubleshoot.

What i I found in my scenario was that the line coming out of the brake switch that ends in the relay doesn’t have power to it when the brake lights are engaged. Rather than trying to deal with the tight quarters and trying to trace the #2 relay wire through the firewall, fuse block, etc, I took a slightly different approach to the issue. I relocated the relay to inside the vehicle and ran ignition on/start, leveraged the brake switch line, and then ran a line to the solenoid and ground. This appears to have corrected the issue.

My question, does anyone know if that relay (shift lock relay/stop lamp relay2) only control the interlock? Based on the wiring diagram, I only noted it going to the interlock. I did high level testing in the garage and all appears well however; I have not taken it out for a drive yet to make sure all is well since I wanted to get feedback from others that know these cars.

Thanks in advance and I appreciate the feedback!
