2012 maxima cvt transmission fill and drain?

Howdy peeps, just copped a 12’ Maxima SV at 90k miles, so it is out of warranty already but based on the carfax the owner didn’t do any tranny flush or any tranny services. So is it safe to do a drain and fill at this point or nah?

Absolutely get it done and also the brake fluid and coolant should be changed if you cannot find any records of it being done,

Okay thanks Rich! It’s not going to cause any slippage or anything bad right? 🤔

Almost never seen a carfax mentioning cvt fluid change, and I saw many (for 7th gens). Not a proof it has never been done before. Still a good call to do it.

From the design of the CVT, there isn't the clutch debris floating in the fluid as would be the case for the typical automatic. Go ahead and drain and refill, relax.

Okay just did it! Added 4.5qt, it ran for about 15 min while shifting reverse n drive back n forth, checked the level n it was in between the grid. Just drove on the highway and checked it again, n the level is over the grid almost at the “hot” where the dipstick has the curves, is it suppose to be there or in the grid?

You want to be right in the cross hatch to be at optimal level, Did you also change the CVT filter and use genuine Nissan NS2 fluid?

There's a CVT oil filter located on the left side mounted on the CVT. It has 2 lines coming out of it an inlet and outlet, it's really easy to change but you will need to get the filter from the dealer. This is an important part of the drain and fill to always remember to change out that filter!

This transmission is very tricky to get a good level of fluid in. Next time you do a drain and refill (after you correct the level ) exactly calculate how much came out, and exactly put the same amount (maybe ever so slightly less). And check it afterwards.

That’s exactly what I tried to do 😂 but this drain pan i got from autozone was not deep enough so when i pulled the plug out it just sprayed the fluid off the pan to everywhere on the damn floor lol but thanks man n thanks everyone!
