White background dash lights not working

2009 Nissan Maxima. The white lights on the speedometer and other gauges have stopped working or half working. Sometimes they flicker on and off. Does anyone know what the problem is. Thanks.

Have a friend with a 2009 model and he has encountered exactly the same problem. Did you get a resolution with your fault?

Thanks in advance

Hi Steve, unfortunately we haven’t had them repaired. The mechanic advised us that to fix the lights they would need to remove the dash and said it would cause more damage to the dash because it’s brittle. I haven’t taken it anywhere else. He looked at it after replacing the alternator which was a hell of a job and quite expensive 🙄
I hope you have better luck

Thanks for the quick reply Jane. I did read somewhere else about the alternator potentially affecting the lighting, however the symptoms were intermittent as you described. I occasionally do some work in an auto shop and am aware of what's involved in replacing the alternator....complete removal of the front of the car including removal of air-conditioning components. I really hope for my friends sake that it is nothing to do with the alternator. Regards

I don’t think it has anything to do with the alternator. Our issue wasn’t resolved after the alternator was replaced. It is more to do with the lights being on a strip and the strip becomes dislodged. Our roads are very rough and we noticed the issue occurred when we had a huge amount of rain and the roads are in such disrepair with potholes everywhere. It’s not an easy fix and I think the Nissan place would charge an arm and leg to fix.
