Hey all, this is my first post on this forum. I have done a little poking around, but no in-depth searching yet. Thought I'd throw this out there prior to getting started with research.


Little bit of background on me and the car:


I am very mechanically inclined and do all of my own work here in my shop. I bought this 2010 Maxima 3.5 used with 16,000 miles on it and it's currently clocking 225,000. I just took a new position that will require 400-500 miles per week of driving. I'd like to keep my Max running reliably for another year if possible, as its enjoyable to drive and it's paid for. I like to service all my vehicles regularly, and I prefer to change components BEFORE THEY FAIL. The only thing that's caused the car to have to be put on the hook for the trip home had 4 legs and horns. Other than that, it's been a good one. Love the power/handling/mileage of this car but HATE HATE HATE working on it!!


In the past, I've changed all the cooling hoses, coil packs, plugs, valve covers, wheel bearings, shocks, struts, CV axles, CVT fluid (3 times) - and probably more that I'm forgetting. Nothing about the engineering of this car makes it easy to work on. 2 years ago, the AC compressor gave up the ghost and it took me 8 hours to change/charge the new setup - NEARLY DOUBLE WHAT IT NORMALLY TAKES ME TO DO ON ANYTHING ELSE If I had any brains about me, I would've went ahead and changed the alternator at the same time, but I didn't.


The 3 components I listed in the title are still OEM originals on this car. What are everyone's experiences/opinions on the longevity of these components? I want to plan on going after all 3 eventually (if need be), but they - specifically the water pump and the alternator - look like gonna be another PITA-job with this car.

Your original alternator lasted much longer than mine which died at 135,000 miles. I replaced my water pump proactively at 170,000 miles because I had to remove my timing chain cover for another repair. This made it much easier to remove the water pump.

 

My water pump lasted until 465000. My alternators around150,000 each, the power steering pump pump at 250k, radiator aroumd 375k, radiator fans at 25k and then again at 460k. The ac compressor about 200k per (i live in fl so ac is always on) At 485k now and still on oem fuel pump.

 

Appreciate the info guys. Sounding like the alternator needs to be first on the hit list. And conversely, the water pump will continue to sit in its box on the shelf! That's awesome service life!
