Second Time Buyer LOOKING FOR QUICK INPUT!!!
I'm looking for a second Maxima since my first one broke down due to rot and other such issues. My grandfather is helping me out with financing said second Maxima. I found, what I think to be a steal, on FB Marketplace since the used car dealerships run up almost 15k for a "decent" one. The one I found has 70k miles, clean title, passed NYS inspection within the last month, and it ran 1 error code. U0164, from what I've read it could be a big issue and could also be a very small issue. If anyone else has run into the same error code, please drop some info below on your own experience with this code. The AC runs perfect cold and hot and there's no check engine light on. I have traced the car back to an auction, where it had minimal front-end damage, bumper needing replacement etc., then to a dealership and finally to the guy I'm buying it from. From messaging back and forth and meeting the guy he seems like a really honest and nice person not just out for quick cash. For living where I do the car is in amazing condition with minimal rust in the engine bay, and the guy wants $7.5k, but seems like he can be talked down since it would also be a cash transaction. I really want to be able to ease my grandfathers and my own suspicions with the car.
***edit; it is a 2014 Maxima***

When you checked for codes (CEL), did you check to see if the monitors were ready? Seller may clear the codes hoping that it doesn't come back as you inspect/test drive. The Monitors not being ready would be a dead giveaway.
See this thread, post #6 for a possible solution.

What does Carfax/Autocheck say? You should run both reports if you're serious as you'll learn different info from each report.
Lastly, if a deal is too good to be true, it probably is. Proceed with caution.

Don't quit understand his reasoning for getting a smaller car and how being a foreigner affects insurance and how it relates to car size. Ask to see the pink slip and his driver's license and make sure they match up.
He truly could be genuine and a nice guy, but he could be a snake in the grass and is being super friendly to make the sale. If you detect any red flags or things aren't adding up, walk away from the deal.
