Possible alternator problems

Okay, so I hit a racoon in my car. And then a couple days later while driving my car, I lost all power in my gas pedal, so I pulled over and the battery and brake light started flickering. Then my motor started like spuddering so I turned my car off. A friend brought me a battery, I put it in and everything went back to normal. The next day A friend did the test where they took off the negative wire from the battery and the car immediately died. But my question is, couldn't this possibly be a wiring problem or a connector? I want to make sure it is a bad alternator before I buy a new one and try to put it in because from what I hear, it's pretty difficult.

A simple load test can be performed. Most shops can/will do it at no charge. Turn the car on, turn all all accessories, ie. Headlights (high beams), stereo, A/C, Wipers, rear defroster, anything that draws power, then they measure the load. If it's not within spec, it's a failing alternator. You say you put in a new battery. If the alternator is faulty, that battery will die soon too. Failing alternators can kill batteries altogether and require replacing again.
