I don't care for the start button on the center console. I prefer the exterior trunk hinges as well. Not really feeling it. Will hold final judgment until I sit in it and drive it.

According to nissan...the SV comes without a sunroof to reduce weight and improve handling.

Unfortunately no nismo edition available. They don't see the value added. Cvt has been improved for better shifts and performance.

I don't get the dimension measurements by the least bit, longer length than Altima, yet it loses rear legroom,& trunk capacity practically unchanged? Smaller gas tank too. Strange.

I'm still wondering if the side view mirrors are powered?

Also, it looks like the fog lights might have directional lights beside them. That would be cool to bring back from the 6th gen.

Yes they are powered on some of the models! You can go to the www.nissanusa.com and they have it up to build and you can see all the features of the different trims.

Have to agree with one of the comments of Nissan still trying to hard sell the Maxima as a sports-car with the CVT and all

Yet their own site (Jalopnik) referred to the test CVT in F1 racing from the early 1990s as #5 of "The Ten Most Ingenious F1 'Cheats' Ever"...

Would have been interesting to see if they were allowed to go forward with using these in racing more as they were banned before real racing data were obtained.

sorry, I think you are confusing power folding and power mirrors.
Manual folding outside mirrors - standard
Dual power outside mirrors - standard

so while they are powered, its only for remote adjustment, just like 7th gen is, not for power folding.

It also looks like there are only 2 proximity sensors, both in front and back, as opposed to 4 or even 6 thats typical of cars. Not sure its a big deal, but why do I get a feeling that this car falls short of our expectations in features that are dropped, or half assed.

Why would they drop paddle shifters from SV and Plat versions? Thats one of my favorite options.

I do like the new screens and ability to see multitude of data at once.

While I have quibbles, overall I'm impressed with the execution. MSRP of $39,680 is almost exactly what my 2010 was almost 6 years ago. For what is in many respects a much improved car, especially the tech baubles.

I also prefer the exterior trunk hinges, although not a deal breaker for me.

Every car has little things like trunk hinges that are slight, but overall I agree, this is a vastly improved, exterior, interior, performance, for the Maxima! Brings back the spirit of the 5th gen that the 6th/7th lacked.

More observations:
no dvd? no details on hd or dvd based navigation. Having 09 Max, where you have to visit dealer for map upgrades, I can testify that it sucks. Hopefully not the case with '16

trunk close handle makes a comeback, yay!

only front windows have auto mode up and down, downgrade from 09

no electronic parking brake

both front seats now get problematic climate control seat function. Hope Nissan figured out the issues?!?!

I would have loved to have a HUD, not to be....

So is there any chance of getting a local dealership to put those 19" SR rims on the SL or Plat? I think those look much better and wouldn't mind paying extra for them. I'd get the SR if it had the moonroof.... its too bad it doesn't because I freaking love the camel leather interior too which only comes with the SR i think.

short of you buying them, no dealer will strip SR to do that.
it looks like SR comes with full size spare too.

Sadly that's what i figured

So my next question... has anyone thought of different 19" shoes that would look good on this thing? Or know of a visualizer that has the 16 max already?

Really really not feeling that overly busy exterior at all after seeing the "real" pics, must give them credit for a nice interior although.

I am pretty sure that somone who buys an SR trim will go aftermarket and you can buy off of them, might just have to look around. Luckily, I plan to order the SR trim!

Aftermarket kit after a few months to replace the trunk hinge arms with pistons that fold vertically along the outside of the weatherstripping?

I do like that option of turning "exhaust" on or off, I believe the jaguar coupe has this feature, pretty cool or am I confusing this with the sport mode 7th gens already have, just now in button form

Yep 7th generation looking better and better. It's exciting to have a new generation but the underhood is scarely similar to 6th or 7th gen design and execution. Oh well, enjoy it fellas I'll stick with the "old" one!

I am totally liking the car but the starting price is kind of steep for what you get, but I have checked out the website the day of the unveiling did show the car to build, and I am surprised there's more trim level then the past generations, usually SV and SR but now they have five trim levels???@@!!!! I am surprise they do not show the moonroof for it, but just panoramic roof on a certain trim, that kind of too hot to have under the summer weather, get burned inside. I really liking the two tone leather, I hope it's better in person when it hits the dealer this summer. That' when i am ready to open my wallet for it.

I think it's something like $1k more than the outgoing car, and to be honest you are getting so much more for the money in terms of build quality and refinement.

R1600Turbo - I agree with you completely. The price of the top level Maxima is not much above the top level of 2008, when I bought my 7th gen. The percentage increase per year is less than almost anything else I can name. I applaud Nissan for holding the line on Maxima prices as well as they have, while continuing to add more useful features every generation.

My 7th gen is almost officially old now and although I'm still very decisive on how I feel about this model. Blue is my favorite color, and that blue color is really growing on me. Especially the blue on cream leather

Do you care to elaborate on build quality statement? I got news for you,
it will be build in the exact same factory, by exact same people who build 7th gen. Those who own 7th gen, can relate to all the issues that plagued 7th gen, from engine, to suspension to seats and paint.
It appears that the car has more electronics, but electronics is getting cheaper all the time. For the price of one 7" display in 2009, they can get two in 2016.
Market will dictate whether the car is priced above what its worth.

Build quality as in a better chassis, parts fitment, parts quality and materials used.

As a long time Nissan owner/enthusiast, it's not just the Maximas with paint issues. Been there done that, it's Nissan paint as a whole. Whether it's the actual paint or the painting process, who knows.

Optional wheels?

Is it just me, or does there seem to be no mention or photo in the press kit of the what appears to be optional 19" wheels that resemble the wheels on the Sports Sedan Concept? Unless they are smaller than I think and are the "unique 18-inch alloy wheels" referred to at the end of the press kit?
These are the wheels I am talking about:

Additionally, the 19" wheels are SR model only according to the specs although the original preview photos that Nissan published before the NYAS showed a Platinum model with the SR 19" wheels.

There also seems to be no official photos of cars with the optional premium spoiler or the sport spoiler mentioned in the press kit. Unless you count the Super Bowl commercial car?
