Maxima.org/IB Coverage of the 8th gen at the NYAS

Hi everyone. Just a heads up IB will be going to the NYAS on press day to get coverage of the official release of the car when it's unveiled to the public at the NYAS. Press day is Wednesday so the pics should be posted up here around Wednesday afternoon or evening.

more to come...stay tuned.

Are we going to get numbers etc? drivetrain info etc? They should be final since the cars are already shipped out.

MPG??? hahaha. I suppose you are being funny.
Has the engine/transmission combo been confirmed as the same essentially as the 7th gen or is there still a chance that the engine or tranny has been changed?

Same configuration, but both have been "revised".

george, it would take many pages to list all the improvements of the 8th gen over the 7th gen. Remember that the 7th gen was designed in 2006, machines were set up to build 7th gen parts in early 2007, and the assembly line in Smyrna began building the first few hundred 7th gens in January 2008. The 7th gen was for sale in dealer lots in June 2008. The 7th gen had virtually all the 'modern electronics' of that era, but NONE OF THE ELECTRONICS AND SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS OF TODAY. The 8th gen DOES.

You have seemed continually disappointed with so much about the 8th gen Maxima, it might make you happier to forget the Maxima and look for cars with the things you need. The Maxima is perfect for many folks, but no car pleases everybody.

DanNY - This is such an exciting time. Anything you can bring us will be much appreciated. Other posters here have already listed much of the info we are looking for. Maybe curb weight was not mentioned. I am hoping the 8th gen will not be much different from the 7th gen (3600 lbs) in weight.

Wednesday is going to be a day where many here will be lurking, gawking, salivating, groaning, cheering, making up their minds on the 8th gen.

Of course you will be grabbing any piece of paper or brochure anywhere near the 8th gen Maxima, although there may not be any quite yet. I am hoping for at least 300 HP, and a 0-60 time around 5.7. That would certainly get me to the grocery store and back in style.

There will be several different wheels available on this 8th gen, and it may be a while before we see all variations. Anything you can find out about the different levels of the 8th gen Maxima will be much appreciated.

And of course we are all hoping your promise for Wednesday does not turn out to be an April Fool's joke, as Wednesday is April Fool's Day.

Considering that the Murano went from 24 to 28 in 2015, we may be close.

Changes are from reduced drag and CVT reprogramming.

We appreciate anything you can get for us. Certainly not your fault Nissan decided to wait until the second day of the show to unveil their products. But we can clearly see that there is a 2016 Maxima under that covering. The shape is unmistakable, and the cloth is not totally opaque.

As for the ecological theme in the upper background, I'm sure that is for the entire Nissan exhibit, not just the Maxima. The very environmentally-friendly Leaf has been a solid seller in the Atlanta area. So much so that the (world's worst) Georgia legislature is voting to remove the fund from which non-petroleum vehicle purchasers were receiving a payment for helping the environment. So Leaf sales will now plummet in Georgia, easily the most backward state on the planet. The state motto should be 'Don't bother us with education.'

As for the Maxima, considering we are talking about the same engine with slight modification, a higher HP, and a car weighing about the same as the 7th gen, I will be impressed with 20 city, 30 highway and 24 overall. That would be a clear step up.

Not only this, but they're considering a new tax on EVs to "make up" for the lost revenue from gas tax. Very annoying.

I can't speak for Georgia, I live in CT. I thought that most states limited the incentives to buy "green" cars to certain number of cars sold, or certain payout amounts. It was just a nice carrot to help the adoption process.
The model is clearly not sustainable. CT has one of the largest gas tax rates. If you don't use gas, you pay no tax. The spending however continues at break neck speed, so something has to give. So those incentives will go, and new taxes will eventually be levied to make up for lost revenue. Every time I read about re-instituting the tolls in CT, I shudder.
Similar idea was implemented with CT Solar fund, where state incentives have been decreasing as adoption is increasing. And I imagine that there are alot more of green cars sold than Solar installs.

but I digress. Thats what we get for not having new Maxima unveiled today.

Hopefully they didn't waste engineering time doing that to lights in place of a more sporty & solid drivetrain. Please prove me wrong Nissan!

Edit: damn it looks good in maroon
