When do you think the car will hit the dealerships?

Hard to say. Nissan's original projection was June 2/3. Their official launch now is "Summer 2015." They started production 4/21. If LOTH's projections are correct, they will build up a supply on the lot before beginning to ship. We need someone close to Smyrna to get a drone and fly over the lot once a week or so.
My dealership is guessing late June based on experience with many previous new model launches.

Full Speed Ahead - 2016 Maxima Launch
Read this article at Automotive News
They think early June 2015.
Nissan will cut weeks out of the amount of time it takes to bring the redesigned 2016 Maxima to full output on three factory work shifts.

Thanks for the link. I think my current Maxima knows the new one is coming out. I purchased it new in early 2000 and I think the tensioners are going bad. Which I heard you need to take the engine out to replace and I don't have the equipment to do that.

Not quite.
The Atlanta area Nissan Marketing Director told me last Tuesday (April 28) that current plans were to have the new Maximas for sale at dealers the last half of June. But much can change in a week. Poster Randy here on the org found an article dated Monday May 4th announcing that the unanticipated surge in orders from dealers had made them decide to go three shifts with the new Maxima, and it will be for sale on dealer lots in early June.
I take 'early June' to mean between June 1 and June 10. If I had to bet money, I would say between June 2 and June 8, very likely in the early part of that window.

On the topic, yes it's true, 5/12, except here it's a Taco Truck instead of fancy shmancy hors d'oeuvres.

When my dealer had his reception in which the 2016 Maxima was unveiled (to enthusiastic applause by around a hundred guests), there was a live radio broadcast of the event, and the food was catered by the best caterer (Casa Blanca) in the area, and folks were filling up on chicken, pork, ham, etc, all of which were served in generous portions and were exceptionall tasty. The food drew as many raves as the Maxima. My wife and I filled up, and skipped the trip to Longhorn we had planned for after the viewing.

This apparent shift of the realease to dealers date from late June to early June has me in sort of a quandry. I had assumed I would be spending time at my dealer's three dealerships the first few days the 2016 Maximas began arriving (just as I had done with the release of the last three generations), but I have two out-of-town weddings and a college reunion scheduled in June. I will probably be spending time at the dealer lots in July, when I have only my high school reunion scheduled, and it is only 300 miles away. I doubt if dealers will be giving good discounts the first few weeks, anyway.
But the time is almost here, and I am really excited about the new Maxima. But also dreading parting with my 2009 Maxima, which has been a wonderful car in every way.

But.... How neat would it be to roll up at your reunion in a brand spanking new and flashy 2016 Nissan Maxima! . ... And the '09 would be a great gift for the Mrs. or one of the kids! Then you could at least look at it once in a while and smile! Just saying ' ... I understand how hard it is to part with a car that has served you so well and your Max has been a great, reliable friend.
I would love to make these long trips in a new Maxima Platinum with all the safety bells and whistles to keep my wife and I safe. As far as impressing old friends and new acquaintences, I don't know that I would be seeing anyone at the very back end of parking lots where I always park. As to passing my beautiful '09 with premium and tech along, both my kids are driving new cars, and my wife swears by her trucks (she has owned nothing but trucks for many decades, as we live on a large property with frequent needs for trucks).
But the REAL reason I won't be passing my '09 along is that my dealer has done all service on this car, knows it to be in pristeen condition, low mileage, without any hint of a scratch anywhere (parking at the back of lots keeps the dings away), has never been redlined, never used as a commuter car, and they always give me well above market value (in addition to a good price on the new car). I have followed this routine for decades, and I probably won't change now.
But thanks for the suggestions. One never knows what the future might bring.
