So, $29k before ttl and $32k after —- That’s a great deal for a great car. Congratulations! It may be a 2018; but it is brand spanking new! Exact same car you would have paid a premium for at the beginning of the model year.

That's a really good deal. I paid 29k (with fees/taxes) for my 18 sv. I debated waiting to see if I could get a better deal/higher trim, but they actually had to get mine from a dealer that was 90 miles away, so I gave in thinking there was few left

Need some advice on price of 2019 close out. Looking at 2019 Platinum with option package that includes dark gray wheels and two tone leather. With the current incentives and dealer discount the price is 34.5k. That’s 10k off list, do you think I can negotiate lower, are there better deals anyone has gotten? It’s the exact color, blue, that I’ve been searching for and it’s only 35 miles from me.

This is my first post in 4 years, sold my 2009 Maxima in 12/2015 and have missed it ever since.

Imo that's a good price. I have an 18 sv that I was able to get for 29k after taxes. I looked at a Platinum prior to my sv, and they wouldnt budge below 34k. A 19 for 34,500 is pretty good. I couldn't justify the monthly payment, so I settled on the sv, which I'm perfectly happy with.

Thumbs up

I also think that is a good price. List for a Platinum without any options is 42,435. You are getting almost 8000 off. Grab it while you can.
Enjoy the ride.

So ended up at 35k for 2019 Platinum with Platinum reserve package. Had to begin to walk out to get the last $500 off.
Couldn’t be happier, car is awesome and just love the interior!

Sadly I noticed car was damaged prior to delivery and dealer issued me a full refund a week later. Since there were no more 2019 Platinum with reserve package available I’ll need to wait until the next year close out prices. Enjoy your rides, awesome car.

Appreciate the update. What kind and to what extent was the damage? So the availability is that bad? Where are you located? Was at my dealer gatting my 1st service on my 19 Platinum and could not find a single 19/20 Maxima on the lot. Located in northern suburbs of Illinois.

That sucks. There are 37-2019 Nissan Maximas at the 3 Nissan dealers in the Little Rock area (same company, same inventory on all 3 websites). Found 13 at another dealer in a town further north.

2019 Platinum for $8k off MSRP and 0% for 60 mo. It was the financing through NMAC that did the trick.

Just got a 2020-S leftover. Silver. A few small dealer options. 31K out the door. Someone mentioned a Y pipe. Is that a cat back exhaust? Another mentioned getting the timing advanced 2 degrees. Who would do that? Certainly not the dealer.

First off, congrats and welcome to the group. The mods you are considering will not do much for noticeable gains in HP. In fact, you might screw things up. As you break this car in, I think you will be impressed with how it runs even on regular gas!

I appreciate the input. I can only go by what I know, have done and read. Reducing back pressure definitely increases HP at higher RPM. OFC Headers make a HUGE difference but are not an option. On a turbo 1992 Eagle Talon (190hp), I increased the boost from 15 to 20. Very noticeable. When I then took off the muffler and left the cat for "sound control" it was a dramatic difference. Did the same thing on a 1988 Supra Turbo same result. Now these are turbo cars so it's not the same as a normally aspirated engine.

In theory a less restrictive intake and muffler should decrease resistance to airflow. The options are a cold air intake which IMO helps only sightly and mainly by the larger, better breathing air filter. I don't think stock intake air temp is that much higher at highway speeds that pretty pipe. I estimate perhaps 5-10 hp max on a 300hp Maxima.

Cat back exhaust seems like BS. The pipes from the cat back on the stock Maxima are just as good as an aftermarket system from what I can see. The restriction is at the cat which cannot be legally altered and the muffler. So replace the mufflers with a straight pipe? Not difficult to do. Might add 5-10 hp but be too damn loud.

Last option is advancing the timing. The timing already advances electronically on modern cars but holds back because advanced timing makes the engine run more roughly and many consumers won't buy that. There IS headroom on timing. On the V8s before a race we simply got 95 octane gas, took out the air filter and twisted the distributor and advanced to the "knock point". There is no question that it made a difference.

Advancing timing 2 degrees should help but will necessitate premium gas. Unless there is some electronic mechanism to defeat the timing adjustment, it will definitely increase hp.

So on our 300hp engines: a cold air intake, straight through mufflers and timing advance should add about 20 hp. Is that noticeable? Maybe...the louder sound will be

Has anyone actually added these parts and tested on a dyno? Like many things...too many claims and no data to back it up. I am a scientist so I rely on data. Not speculation of testimonials.

The above is just my perspective and I understand the thinking to just "leave it alone". The Maxima works great stock. Radical enhancements can be illegal and damage the car. E.G. a Nitrous setup or supercharger. The next Maxima? How about better engine balance so redline is 7000? This will increase HP but may lessen torque. Some sort of less restrictive exhaust manifold and cats? Who knows.

Feel free to opine and direct me to any performance parts that have been tested.

2020 Maxima, Platinum

Before tax, I paid $38,742.00. Thought I got a pretty good deal.
There was a $3500.00 rebate.

Opinions???

Also, I am trying to upload photos of my Maxima, with no luck.
Anyone else with a Mac experiencing issues trying to upload photos?

Thank you in advance.

Hi David,

if it is a platinum with “all the extras”, then maybe it’s a fair deal... otherwise, unfortunately no, you probably could have spent a lot less. But don’t feel bad, if you love the car and it’s worth it to you.., that’s all that matters! It’s a good value either way

I agree. Unless it's a fully loaded Platinum, he paid too much.

I paid $27k before tax for a 2018 SV, in 2018.

It is a Platinum.
They come only 1 way - loaded.
The MSRP was: $43,145.00.
As I said earlier, I paid $38,742.00.

My 2019 Plat Res money factor (MF) was 0.00006. To put that in APR terms, that's 0.14 PERCENT.
(Genesis MF was 0.00003 at the time, but there were no cars available, so ... didn't help me)
To put that in "what the F does it mean" terms - I pay $55 a year in finance/interest charges.

If I flip to a 2021 40th? I'd pay $2500/year in interest.
(as an aside, my dealer did EVERYTHING they could do - it's not their fault - Nissan Finance just hates the Maxima and wants it gone)

Buying a car is a serious matter and if you don't understand this, you can make a mistake and spend a lot of money that you could not have spent if you knew how and by what factors you need to buy a car. Of course everyone wants to save money and I can tell you how to do it. It is best to buy a car abroad where they are cheaper. And it is best to buy there and then transport to your country with the help of the excellent transport car service across the country that will transport your car that you bought cheap in another country and bought even cheaper delivery.

Randy,

I extended the lease on my 2016 Platinum for 3 months at essentially the same monthly payment while I was waiting for my then-new 2019 to arrive.
It gives you time to see what else is out there.

I am also wondering what the lease pricing is doing. Do you want 12K or 15k miles per year. Length of term?
The resale is weak on these cars because there are such huge discounts. Almost make sense to buy outright. Not wise to lay alot down upfront past say the taxes and fees.
Let us know what you do?

Randy,
You may want to consider a 2020 with low miles or a dealer demo.
Unfortunately, the Maxima does not hold its value.
But, it is a GREAT vehicle!

robtroxel - I have 5 month's left on my current lease. Nissan is waving the last two month's so that would put me around end of May.
May has always been a bad month for lease's at Nissan cause its the start of there financial first qtr. Usually no incentives. My usually term is
12k miles per year for 3yrs. Nissan is now offering 10k miles per year at 3yrs which would work for me. As of now there aren't many 2021 Maxima
Platinum's around my area. Seem to be a few SR's which i am not interested to buy or lease.

davidmetro - thanks for your reply but i am not interested in a low mileage 2020 - its got to be new 2021 ! Been a Maxima driver since 1993 !

I know there are plenty other cars to consider but nothing interests me. This could very well be the early signs of the end of the Maxima.
Time will tell. I have been in the 40th anniversary edition which is very nice. But in my opinion its not worth the additional cost. the local dealer has had one
inside the showroom since early December.

I think the 40th anniversary edition is sweet! Perhaps try and negotiate with the Dealer since it's been sitting for so long. Never know until you try.
