Cool 2016 Max Roof Structure Integrity

I just bought a 2016 Platimum and am looking for a roof rack. Talked to a guy at Thule and he cautioned me about potential problems due to the strength of the glass roof. Does anyone have any experience with carrying a car top box full of clothes on a Maxima from prior generation with glass roof?

I don't have any experience nor do I know of anyone who has done it but I will tell you, I own a 2010 full glass roof Maxima and, I lived in the desert for the past 16 months.

During that time I parked my car mainly outdoors in the sun and for some unknown reason my aluminum roof rails became warped and my sunroof would not fully close. I'm taking my car to the dealer here in Kansas City next Tuesday for a re-diagnosis and repair.

It seems that the roof rails can not be replaced separate from the glass itself. I was told by the Nissan tech that the entire glass roof has to be replaced at a cost of $6000 for the part alone.

That being said I recommend you do not attempt to put anything on your roof. And I don't think you will find a roof rack for a full glass roof car. My wife has a 2013 Kia Optima with a full glass roof and there is no rack available for it that I know of and I couldn't find one for the 2010 Maxima either.

Thanks for the info. I have decided that a room rack won't work. Am looking into a small trailer.

Did you consider a Murano?

A trailer is easier anyway, and you won't f_up and ruin you load when you drive into the garage.

Where you able to get a full size hitch or did you have to go for a small one?

I did not consider a Murano. Don't need anything so big. I have a few hundred miles on the Maxima and absolutely love it. It's even nicer that I though it was going to be.

I have not decided exactly what I am going to do about the roof top carrier. I talked to Thule and they are working on a solution. I don't know if it's for the solid roof or the glass top also. I'll wait to see what Thule comes up with.
