2016 Maxima - Ground Effects Lighting

Hey everyone,

I just bought a 2016 SR! I love it!

Has anyone had the ground effect lighting installed as an add on by the dealer? Anything to be worried about?

Im always a little nervous about any drilling or splicing outside of the factory.

I bought the kit with the coupon, and I am having my dealer install it. I found the install instructions, and they seem pretty solid, but Im a little nervous with my new baby.

I had my dealer install the ground lighting while it was at the dealership for the recall. Everything is working fine thus far.

This is a situation that depends on the dealer service department. I have a dealer I have used for decades, and know they will work hard to do everything right, and will not be happy until they have everything perfect. Were I taking it to a dealer whose service department I was not familiar with, I would be a tad nervous. Since Nissan furnishes fairly good installation instructions, your chances it will be done correctly are probably good.

I just bought a 16' Maxima and debating on getting the ground lighting. Is it worth it for those that have it? Does it look nice when lit at night?

Ground Lighting

How much did the dealer charge to install the G E L? Does it light up when you unlock with the remote?

So far they quoted me $60, but I bet its more like $120.
Yes they illuminate when key fob is pressed and deilluminate with the inside light.

That sounds like a great deal, although you may want to find out the price on labor.

I was quoted $320 installed. However, I have to wait a few weeks until Nissan ships out the updated versions. The service guy mentioned that they recently had to return their current inventory but was not sure why.

So ... for those of us who don't know ... these things don't stay lit up while you drive, do they? Aren't they just like "puddle lamps" on steroids?

Correct - the GEL is on whenever the interior lights are on. When you unlock the car, exit the car, etc.

Thanks - it was a fad awhile back to have "neons" under cars on all the time, and i was afraid that was coming back.

Thats weird, my dealer was a N/C...All I paid for was the $180 for the part, scheduled a service, got it installed took 2.5 hrs, and cashed out a n/c. Maybe try another dealer...

Do you have a long term relationship with your dealer?

I've gone to 2 dealers and they both quoted the same to me. 2 hours I can accept, 4 hours is just to much to pay for lights.

Seems to be a wide divergence with dealer-installed options. Someone here had illuminated kickplates added, and the dealer quoted him a price that included 3 1/2 hours of labor. And dealer labor at some dealers is $70 per hour. And that did not include the parts.
