Nissan Quality Control - I hope they see this thread!

I bought my Platinum at the end of September and generally like it a lot. It's not perfect, but it is a good car and I like the looks and technology in it.

Last week, I was driving customers to lunch and talking cars. The one in the back seat asked if I had ever sat back there. Well, as the only driver typically I never had. He said I should check out the door panels.

This is what we saw!

Driver Side:




Passenger Side:




A satin silver door panel was put in instead of the wood grain panel!

Now I know a lot of you will chime in on how you hate the wood (I like it a lot), but I am amazed this made it passed inspection or even how this panel was packaged for the kit to build my car.

I took it in and it is being replaced under warranty this week with no questions asked (as it should be) and the service adviser says he has never seen one like this (I would hope not!)

Anyway Nissan - step up your Quality Control game!

I agree there quality control is really bad I had my issues to.

Lol. That line is moving, and the dude on the right installs what's supplied to him and the dude on the left does the same. I doubt they even noticed what each guy had installed.

But even if they HAD noticed, they would have had to stop the line and have another panel sent down. That would take time and be a huge deal.

Final inspection should have caught it, though.

Pretty easy to fix that. Many years ago, they pulled out a glass coke bottle from my then new Chevrolet Caprice's rear door. Boy did that make a rattle!

The line workers simply put the parts on the car as they arrive at the line. Computers build the work orders and select the parts. This is done by computer because each vehicle coming down the line is different. A Maxima may be followed by an Altima or some other type vehicle.

This type error would not be a computer programming problem, but a human error in staging the parts where the computer expects to find them. I have seen this type problem on a smaller scale, but never something this obvious. I can understand why this was missed in the final check, because it is something the inspector has never seen, and is not looking for. Also, he is not looking at both sides of the cabin at the same instant. Embarrassing.

But lots of folks at Nissan will get a big laugh out of this. I know I had to laugh. It is easy to laugh at a strange and very unusual problem that has absolutely no operational impact on the car, and will be so easy to fix.

Had it been a bad CVT or a blown head gasket, I would have been much less amused.

Follow up: Warranty replacement done and looks great.

BTW: if you need a great service department in Central Ohio - Germain Nissan was fantastic to work with. Even though I bought the car at their competitor, they serviced it fine and provided a loaner even though they didn't have to since it was not an overnight repair.

I like it when folks find a dealer they can work with, then let us know. We hear from many folks here about dealers they are not happy with.

I have had excellent service from three Nissan dealerships, all part of the Nissan South network:

Nissan of Newnan in Newnan GA
Nissan South in Morrow GA
Nissan of Union City in Union City GA

I currently use Nissan of Newnan for all my purchases, parts, service, warranty work, repairs, tires, batteries, etc. New facility. Friendly, efficient folks, knowledgeable service folks, large, clean waiting room (with separate in-house movie theater), restaurants within walking distance, etc.

In case anyone may wonder, I am not related to anyone in any way that is involved with those three dealerships, nor do I have any financial or other connection with anyone at those three dealerships. My only connection is that those are the only automobile dealerships I have used for the past twenty years. When I find a good thing, I stick with it.
