USB port problems anyone?
USB port problems anyone?
My Platinum 8th Gen has what I think must be a defect... I loaded a few thumb drives with music and popped them into the provided USB ports. Every one of them, after a several minutes of "Reading USB Device" comes back with "check USB device" and that's it. No play.
Curious, I popped out the Android phone, plugged each of these 3 USB keys into my OMA USB connection to the phone, and every one of them plays just just over BlueTooth audio. They also all play just find on home and work computers.
When I tried the car again, they all 3 failed to load, again.
Any ideas? Anyone else have this issue?
I have tried several different bit rates of .MP3s to eliminate that from the equation. I have only used MP3 files, not WMA or any of those other formats.
I'm open to problem solving advice...
Thanks

I wonder if it is a USB 2.0 vs 3.0 problem. USB 3.0 suppose to be backwards compatible with 2.0 and 1.0. But I thought that only a requirement for the reading device, not the device itself.
...Then there is USB on-the-go. I didn't research that yet.

I have issues where it just stops reading the files. I will show them, as far as like track numbers, but no info and no sound. When I take the usb out and try to switch over to another source, it still get nothing, sometimes it just freezes. I literally have to turn the car off and back on to get it to reset. Of course the dealer can't provide any info on this and can't say anything since I cannot get it to reproduce the issue.
One thing to keep in mind is that if you have a gargantuan USB drive plugged in, it will take some time to read the directory especially if it is a full drive. I get fast performance using SanDisk USB drives that are 8 to 16 Gb in size. Folks that is a ton of songs.
2017 SL: I immediately went out and purchased a new USB drive to hold all my music. Unfortunately I bought a USB 2.0. I quickly became frustrated because my music would restart with the first song on the flashdrive. If I'm not mistaken I believe car manufacturers didn't start installing systems that played USB audio until after usb-v3.0 was already in the marketplace. Therefore it makes sense that using a 3.0 USB would perform better. Since switching to the USB 3.0, I haven't had any issues with resuming playback at the last stop.

Worker: Hey boss, we need to add USB to this car. I found a USB chip made by a highly reputable company. I found a different chip made by another company that is a penny cheaper....
Actually, isn't clarion the maker of our radios? I always associated them with the cheaper radios.
