Rust

Going in for first service this afternoon so did a walk around. Seems there is a rust spot right above the silver trim on the trunk lid. Looks like it may have started under the trim.

Obviously some pre-delivery damage as it is in a spot that couldn't possibly be hit by a stone. Pretty annoying. Not sure what I should ask for. I know that a repaint is never as good as original so what? A spot repair?

This seems like a fairly common Nissan thing. My '13 SV Sport had an issue with small rust spots above the chrome piece on the trunk lid. Turns out that it was the piece rubbing the paint and the process of expansion and contraction made it worse. Nissan wanted to re-paint the whole lid, but I didn't want that (pearl white), as I thought it would never match.

What we ended up doing was polishing the spots and doing minor spot repairs for areas under the chrome piece. Before a new piece was installed, the dealers clear bra guy put a very small piece of bra material under where the chrome touched the paint. Issue solved.

Good luck!

Interesting, I just noticed same rust spot on my 2013 yesterday. Will definitely take to dealer in next month.

Thanks for idea on bra. Dealer wants to repaint, but not until summer as it will take.....3 days. Says bra not necessary as new chrome pieces come with foam backing. Said I wasn't too keen on repainting whole trunk. Will talk about it when it warms up again.

I seem to recall a few instances of that same thing with the 7th gen. I like that Nissan is changing the chrome bar to have a little padding behind it. Metal against paint is never a good thing.

Just had my 2013 painted with same issue last month under warranty. The scary part is that Nissan has known about this issue for years and failed to address it on the 8th gen.

The fact the 8th gen design was already far along with original intentions of release in summer of 2013 as the 2014 model may have entered into the failure to address this problem with the 8th gen. But I agree that the 8th gen release delay due to the CVT problems should have been used to recheck all 7th gen problems and correct them before the delayed 8th gen release.
