Sound coming from speakers when audio turned off?

So I noticed this 3-4 days after getting my car and most of the time when my audio is off its like as if theres some sound coming off the speakers. I don't know how to describe this sound but its the sound you get from the speakers when you have your auxiliary cable connected to your phone with no music playing. It feels like your speakers are on even when audio is turned off.
Is this normal or do I have to worry about it coz it is kind of loud.

My guess is that this is the ANC function doing its thing (noise cancelling). If you don't want this happening, do this:

Start the car
Turn off the audio system
Press and hold the settings button while spinning the volume button until it beeps
Release the settings button

The menu you see (DIAGNOSTICS) will allow you, among other things, to turn OFF the ANC function.

Be careful in here, you *can* make other changes that affect your car significantly, and not always for the better.

Good luck!

I thought I had similar issue until I realized the cooled seat switch was on. Thought the sound was coming from speakers.

Exactly what Publixman99 stated. Check your seat climate control switch. I posted back in January about something similar. It sounded like a "white noise". Even took it to the dealer as I thought it might have been my fuel pump and as a result had a good laugh with the tech. The warmer or cooler you have the control the louder the sound will be. Turn the switches off and it will go away.

LOL yeah i just checked that out. Its weird how it seems like the sound is coming from the speakers but its actually the seat cooling.
Thanks a lot!

It happens in my 2012 Altima too, infact I noticed it yesterday. Like you mentioned, this happens when Aux cable is connected to phone and no music is played. I do not have heated/cooled seats in my Altima.

I am not an expert but this is I think also happens when you rub your finger against aux input on a very loud speaker (regular audio speaker). Aux cable might be hitting off of tiny electrical signals when rubbed against.

All right start laughing, so how do you turn the climate controlled seats off?

From what I can tell you can only turn the center dial counter clockwise for cool and clockwise for heat.

LOL... Yep - Happened to me. GF left the heat on the seat full blast and for a WEEK afterwards the noise at idle without the radio on was driving me nuts. I could not figure out what it was (I knew about the ANC but this was a different sound all at the wrong times).. I almost was about to drive to the dealership and see what they can find out is going on when... lord and behold... I spotted the Heating control **** for the passenger seat all the way to max heat. I leaned over and listened and, man, that sound was loud coming from the perforations of the seat! clicked it off... felt stupid as heck... and continued on my way laughing at myself...

You are not the first to have this happen. They could have done a more sensible switch design as the small LED just is hard to see.
